MSFS, 'study' level aircraft, online ATC - it all makes flight simulation so fulfilling.  I wouldn't expect this from a sim enthusiast online!

Example of poor comms.

Absolutely shocking!

The number of mistakes (the 5 read back errors, the runway incursion, the subsequent wrong direction) was just difficult to take in.  Can you imagine flying with that guy.  What a white knuckle ride!

Further proof that comedy is often just one event away from tragedy.

Do you need a full readback or are you cool with cutting corners?  ATC is usually ok with cutting corners, right??

These types are exactly what I had to deal with at the small tower I worked at.  You'd be shocked actually.

That was probably the most frustrating thing i've heard in a long time.

In my everyday job i am dealing with similar situations regularly and the majority its the same type of pilot. 50+ plus years and obviously not used to flying IFR.

Listening to that was frankly quite alarming. I hope it was just a one off and that he was having a really bad day. So many read back errors and then two mistakes during what should have been a simple taxi to the active. Do controllers have the authority to cancel an IFR/VFR flight plan based on their concerns about a pilots competency? If so this is a prime example of when it should be done.

Wow! Thanks for sharing that. I think when pilots reach a certain age they should be required to do a proficiency test every few years to keep both themselves and those they fly over safe.

Every 24 calendar months, all PICs (in the US) are supposed to show that they can still act as PIC. The CFI is the one responsible to ensure that the Pilot is still qualified. If they are, then they get a logbook endorsement. It's really a checkride, but most Pilots don't look at it that way.

Ah, ok thanks. Do you know if this applies to those holding a PPL or just commercial pilots?

I agree, brevity is very important.

Another even more egregious example of poor comms from a professional pilot: https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/general-discussion-news-and-announcements/190615-21may22-pmdg-737-700-developers-update-pending-changes-in-the-cooker

I wondered the same.  That guy seemed so confused and disorganized I was wondering if he was actually fit to fly (in my amateur opinion)
