I'm wondering if it is easier to download on Steam. I'm one of the few that can't seem to download from Microsoft. I tried everything they suggested and nothing worked. If somebody could tell me about the Steam model I would appreciate it.

Steam is a well established overlay. It takes care of most of the Microsoft store operations in the back ground. Only thing to watch out for with steam and MSFS is the "verify files" command for MSFS, that command will uninstall MSFS.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz (8 cores) Hyper on, Evga RTX 3060 12 Gig, 32 GB ram, Windows 11, P3D v6, and MSFS 2020 and a couple of SSD's

Steam is it's own self contained cloud distribution and delivery model.  THOUSANDS of titles from numerous developers available on Steam.

Create account, download Steam Client, install, log in and start browsing.  It will then create a Steam Library locally of your installed games/sims and sync that information with the Steam Cloud.  Just as an example they welcomed 30M new "purchasers" to the Steam ecosystem in 2021, roughly 2.5m new purchasers per month.

So it's tried and tested... 🙂

If Flight Simming is niche, then most video games is niche. How many games sell over a million copies on PC? Hardly any since 2020 according to this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_PC_games

PC video gaming is niche... You only referenced PC/Mac/Linux video games.  As MSFS is XBox compatible look at it compared to other console releases. GTAV sold 165,000,000 copies overall, 2M on PC. #50 on that list including console video games is 20+Million copies...

So yes, PC gaming on a whole is niche, flight simulator is a niche within a niche.

Speaking of Steam, is it possible to buy things from the FS Marketplace using my Steam account? Or do I need to give Microsoft my credit card?

Yes, Steam uses your payment method to buy credits for FS Marketplace or something like that. There is a few extra mouse clicks but its no problem.

How times have changed. It was not that long ago that we were seeing posts from some individuals predicting that "MSFS will sink like a stone [or other object]."  Quite the opposite, as it turned out. To paraphrase Winston Churchill's comment about Britain's supposedly being headed for defeat in WWII, "Some sinking! Some stone!"

It is nice to know that this fantastic sim, which was beyond imagination (mine anyway) just a few years ago, is now generally recognized for the accomplishment it represents. It's curious that a quarter of the Steam reviews were negative, especially as virtually all the professional reviews I've seen are very positive. But there's not much mystery as to what is going on there.

BlueGames is my fav strearme r but he also does Train Sim 2 and XP stuff

Surprised to see Euro Truck Sim so high on that list.

Nope, that PC sales figure on Wikipedia is completely out of date. GTAV has sold more than 10 times that amount on PC by now. There's no way Euro Truck Simulator 2 has outsold GTAV by 3x...

Having just done a steam survey MSFS is not in the top 20 most active users list. And the high end 30 series GPU`s make up less than 1%.

Show the numbers if you wouldn't mind...  GTA4 had like 3.5M PC sales lifetime compared to 200M console sales.  That's about the same ratio as 165M console to 2M PC.  On average the PC side is a rounding error compared to overall sales.

ETS2 is not available on console and has a massive following on PC.  SCS have a cult like following.  I'm more than happy to believe that GTA V has sold 20M copies on PC as you state. just show me some evidence or proof please.  I can't seem to find anything to back your claim.

Are you aware that Microsoft makes and sells the Windows operating system?

That would be like McDonalds selling Burger King..

MFS is probably the Greatest Success ever in the history of flight simulation, all variables taken into consideration...

The most interesting fact is that given it's dynamic core development ( unlike past versions ), this rate of success can only grow.

Should MS / ASOBO decide to extend it into the other two platforms - Mac OS and Linux - and it would be an absolute reference.

It wouldn't surprise me to see that happening one day...

I believe they have already accomplished this with MSFS Cloud?
