August 12, 20223 yr Hi, I was thinking about upgrading my screen from 1080p 24 inch to 1440P 32 inches…. @Fielder is there really not much difference between the 2 resolution ? Pierre

Pierre Yes Pierre. About 360P. So in all seriousness, that's about 30% more depth resolution. How much better this is for you depends on the individuals perception. Some will say 'wow!', others will not be that impressed. For me, the biggest step up was to 4k (2160P), but that requires a fairly powerful PC. What is your graphics card? In general, I would say any increase in resolution is better, as you can see things further away (airport lights / PAPI's etc), but of course, there is the benefit / cost ratio. It depends how important it is to you. Some people on the forums run at 1080P and 20 FPS and say it is fine for them. I personally don't understand that. If I am running a quality sim with great graphics, I want to be able to appreciate them with a good monitor and screen resolution. I understand not everyone can afford to do this. I have to squeeze my budget, but flight-simming is important to me, so it is a priority. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio. Pierre Whenever you move to a larger monitor (32 vs 24), you should also either go to a higher resolution (1440 vs 1080) or sit further away from the screen to get the same visual detail.. as others have said, you need the computer power to move the additional pixels.. Personally, I fly with a 27" monitor at 1080p, and run that at 30 fps on a GTX 1070.. 😉 Bert

August 13, 20223 yr Hi, I am about 50 cm from my screen, maybe 32 inches is too much then. @Bert Pieke Me too I am running well currently with my 1070 and 1920 x 1200 monitor ( I like this ratio ). Just changed the CPU recently from i5 5600K to i5 12500. I was wondering if it is best to aim for a cheap 3060ti or wait for 4070 and invest more money…if upgrading to 1440P. Pierre

Pierre I have exactly those two screen sizes and a 3070. The game is noticeably better on the 1440p 32" screen, especially in HDR. 1440p on my 3070 with a 9900K has CPU and GPU relatively balanced and gives me 40 to 50 fps with Ultra and a few things like LOD wound up past ultra, Edited August 13, 20223 yr by Glenn Fitzpatrick

The increased resolution is noticeable, but nothing to write home about. Maybe because I'm using DLSS which softens the image (but jazzes up the fps nicely). And the beta patch all by itself without DLSS or DX12 increased my frame rates. I've had nothing but pleasant experiences with all the public beta patches. Perhaps because I moved Community and Official folder to C:\MSFS as recommended by MS to not use the default location. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Using a custom location is not a bad idea anyhow. Just had to reinstall SU10 beta, and it took less than 10mins since I had a backup of the Official folder. With all the World Updates installed this amounts to almost 200GB which would take many hours to install from scratch. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

Maybe. 4k? No. Great thing about the market is we have choices to fit our needs..... August 13, 20223 yr Part of my point is that 1440 is the sweet spot for MSFS and the 3060ti handles that quite well. Yea I know some need to have the absolute best hardware but for some of us it is a pointless (and very expensive) endeavor. Less is more sometimes.
