Windows 11 downgrade to Windows 10

Featured Replies

HAGS is default enabled in Windows 11, it isn't in Windows 10, for example. Could be lots of little tweaks or a local issue. 100% not something specifically related to Windows 11.

When running into issues with bad performance or CTDs, we sometimes resort to desperate measures even though they might not make sense at the time. I’ve been haunted by CTDs since I upgraded my rig, and I’ve tried all sorts of tweaks to resolve the issue. I even thought about downgrading to Win10, but luckily I’m out of the woods (I hope), for now.

Did you upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10?
I had similar issues after upgrading from Windows 10 to 11, but instead of downgrading to Windows 10 I solved it by doing a fresh install of Windows 11 and making sure all drivers were current.

I did, and also did all the updates. I might have overlooked something, it sounds ... logical and probable.

But I did not see anything in the Windows Update section to update, and for instance updated motherboard, latest Nvidia driver, Spad.next latest alpha version. I am also not ranting on Windows 11, it ran great for my other programs, I like the interface.

But my point in starting this subject was just to inform to consider downgrading when performance issues happen, if nothing else seems to help. And with that I do not say one has to do that, or that I urge simmers to do that.

It is just an option to be considered.

What they and many of us do not like is the quoting of many pictures or paragraphs of text, followed by a one line answer.
Such things can be seen every day.

I applaud @Rene_Feijen for the topic.
A solution to a problem has been found and shared.
The fact that some have tried to shoot it down in flames is typical and regrettable.
I applaud Rene_Feijen for the controlled and polite responses to the critics.

Thank you @Reader.

Downgrade to Win 3.11 to get a real stutter free sim.

No no, go DOS 3.0 😉 (my first OS) and prepare for a multi million floppy installation process, which will take several years (I am sure someone can calculate how long it would take to downlad and install with let's say a 2400 baud modem, and how long it would take for the sim to produce 2 images on a Hercules graphics card)(this is all pure theoretical and I know my first harddrive, a hardcard actually, was only 20 MB capacity)(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardcard)

(this is a tongue in cheek post)

EDIT: MySound is actually right. It will not stutter. It will produce an everlasting continuing image, unchanging enough to let it hang in a museum.

I would not say that, mysteries can happen. Since I bought a "green current" contract from my energy provider I've got +5 fps in my Sim! 🙂

I ate Brussel sprouts and it happened.

Maybe keep Windows 11 but step back to FS98?

We are old fashioned at work, we never upgrade to a new OS until it has been out for at least 12 months.  That way all the weirdness and driver issues can be sorted out by someone else.

Hence when we purchased another 10 new HP Elitebooks last month I made sure I ordered them with a Win10 downgrade and installed Win10 on them. Why?  Because we know it works.

A lot of other companies must think the same because Win10 downgrades are available on most current workstations and enterprise grade laptops.

In terms of servers, where-ever possible we run Linux. Mainly because the CAL situation with MS Server products is counter intuitive and approaching insane, for some of our applications not even Microsoft could tell us what the correct licencing would be.

Sorting out issues with a new operating system is sort of fun and gets you street cred as a gamer, but for a business it just costs money for no benefit.

I did not think you were ranting and I appreciate you sharing your experience. If things don't work out after an upgrade it is quite logical to try and revert back to the previous situation when things worked fine.
Your initial post could (or should) be read as a warning not to upgrade just because it is possible, a sentiment I share. If you have no issues with the current configuration it is often better to leave it as it is, at least while Windows 10 is still in support.

For those on newer hardware Windows 11 might bring a few advantages but then a fresh install is recommended over an upgrade. An upgrade might work but in my experience from previous upgrades chances are you end up doing a fresh install anyway so take that into account.

Controllers: Fulcrum One Yoke | MFG Crosswind v2 pedals | Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant |Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant | Stream Deck XL & Plus | TrackIR 5 Tobii eye tracking

I am now on Windows 11 for the 4th time. (reverting back to Win 10 takes about maybe 7 minutes for me). Going from 10 to 11 takes much more time. I  switch back and forth.

I keep hoping to see improvements with 11 but there is only a slight retrograde UI, compared to 10. Win 11 has no toolbars allowed (why)? (But by changing one registry  key you can get toolbars back). I have used a toolbar since Windows 7. (It is of course a vertical bar that extends 90 degrees upwards from the horizontal taskbar when you click it's icon). I keep all MSFS links and helps on that toolbar.

Then there's the Win 11 ridiculous right mouse click menu in File Explorer. Copy, Cut, Paste, Rename, 'Open with', and Properties are now gone from the menu until you do the extra step of clicking on 'Show More Options'. For someone adjusting files or folders, that might be an extra 200 mouse clicks an hour.

I like Win 10 better, but only by a little bit. I can live with 11

As stated previously, when doing an over-write from W10 to W11, it can lead to some problems with drivers and apps, but having said that, I have had zero issues myself.
I need W11 really due to having an Intel 12900k, as it deals with the power and eco cores better than W10, so rolling back wouldn't be the best solution for everyone.
I also think the OP's issue was something more specific that the operating system, but if he is happy then all is good.  I mean, how long can you spend trying to trace these elusive and specific issues anyway?

Copy, Cut, Paste, Rename and Delete are all still there, as icons, including a new one, share.
Properties is still there as text.
Agreed, "open with" needs another click but if dealing with large numbers of files, it is easy
enough to select a default program and thus remove the need for "open with".

Well, I spent about 5 weeks on that. That was enough.

To be honest, that would probably be ideal.
I wish I still had a machine with XP on one, and another with Windows 7.
Many things just ran smooth and better in those two.

So much bloated garbage now on newer OS’s that no one uses.
