September 29, 20223 yr I have a 500 GB SSD as my main drive. It is getting kind of full with MSFS stuff. My question is, if I set up add on linker, can the files that are in my community folder be moved to my D drive which is almost empty? If so, is there any downside to doing that?
September 29, 20223 yr Yes, they can be moved (Addon Linker even has a function for that). No, there's no downside. In my opinion Addon Linker makes a lot of things easier and more convenient. Edited September 29, 20223 yr by -Belga-
September 29, 20223 yr I assume you haven't used Addonlinker until now. To answer you question, yes this possible and it is the most important benefit o AL. I have created a folder MSFS-Addons on D. Fired up AL and told it to use this folder. AL knows automatically, wher your real community folder is and creates the necessary links according to your needs. - Harry 9800x3D (Strix x870e-E) - 64GB RAM (DDR5 6000, CL 30) - RTX 5090, 34'' 1440p OLED HDR - Windows 11 Pro (1TB M.2) - MSFS 2024 (MS Store, 4TB M.2).
September 29, 20223 yr Hi, Bob I have a dedicated external disk where I put all my add-ons. I manage them with Addon Linker. It works like a charm. Greetings
September 29, 20223 yr And, using AddonLinker, you don't have to have all your Community addons loaded at once. I have my scenery addons divided up by regions, for example. My MSFS 2020 repaints: Flightsim.to - Profile of HStreet Working on MSFS 2024 versions.
September 29, 20223 yr @Bobsk8 just make sure you test first with only 1 or 2 addons (test in sim that are well working after being 'linked' to make sure everything works for you). It would be sad if you move 100's of GB at once and then find out it doesn't work for you (you might end up being angry towards the creator of the tool 😱🙈😁) For steam it should be ok 100% of the time, but for some MS-Store users sometimes moving files outside of their community folder renders them useless (some sort of Windows protection/encryption), for the majority all is well by i know from past experience that a few users had some problems moving files from that folder. 🍻

I think if you move just the items in the community folder you should be OK. It's a good idea to start with a few items though, just to get an idea how it works. September 30, 20223 yr Whenever I try to move addons to another drive, I get the "your organisation does not allow you to" warning. I do have a program called the unstoppable copier which I have had some success with and may be worth trying. What do you have to do to allow you to move files normally? "Take Ownership" doesn't seem to help. For some reason, that seems to work. Bert

"Take Ownership" doesn't seem to help. As I place all my addon files in a different drive from MSFS, they are never in Community in the first place (addon-linker places only links there), and so never have to be moved. In your case, since your files are already in Community, it should be possible to move them individually to the new location, after which you will have an empty Community folder (except for the selected links addon-linker places there). One of the great things about AL is that it allows you to have zillions of add-ons without having to worry about space on your MSFS drive.

October 10, 20223 yr @Bad_T I use your program with every MSFS session- invaluable, ta! I noticed that my Twotter entry is in RED. I looked in Adam's PDF linked in the Help Section but did not see why? Can you please let me know why this entry is in red font? It all seems to work just fine. https://imgur.com/a/cfgTreB As a note- the Twotter is in my Orbx folder so she can stay updated, and I just copy off the aircraft to my Addons Folder where the Linker works from. This has been fine since it was released but with the latest version of Linker- I see the red font. Thanks again- GREAT UTILITY! C Edited October 10, 20223 yr by cavaricooper Best- Carl Avari-Cooper
October 10, 20223 yr hello @cavaricooper It appears in red when it detects that the same folder name is declared twice (or more) in your addons folders structure. if you click on the little 'yellowish triangle warning sign' in the toolbar at the top it should show you where the other is located. it's not a problem at all, everything will work fine, the red is just a warning that you have a potential duplicate. Let me know if my explanations do no match with what you see 🙊 🍻 Edited October 10, 20223 yr by Bad_T
