I don't like downgrades either.  I actually just sold my 12700k rig to go with the 5800X3D new build.  Not because I had to have the AMD.  I was having some electronical issues with the specific MB I used to have.  I just decided for me the best decision was to move on.  I didn't feel like getting new DDR5, so in my sense I was able to do a buy and sell for almost the same cost.  A wash.

If I were to upgrade my 12900KF (no plans!) I would hypothetically look at the 7800X3D which is thus far only a rumor AFAIK.

That'll be an expensive upgrade though as I would have to replace my current z690 motherboard. Which wasn't the cheapest one since it's watercooled in collaboration with EK.

the latest AMD 3D-V cache technology has me re-evaluating that habit though.

the other one to watch for in 2023 is Intel's Metro Lake, often misspelled as Meteor Lake 😊. Composed of TSMC's 5nm/6nm process node. This one could be a true challenge for AMD's 3D-V cache, not the 13900K though, the Raptor Lake's 10 nm fabrication node has reached its EOL. Intel can call it "Intel 7" as long as they want, it is still based on their outdated inefficient 10 nm process node, not 7 nm technology.

"unlike AMD's brand new Zen 4 microarchitecture that's now based on a 5nm process, Intel's Raptor Lake is “merely” another refinement of their 10nm process node, also known as Intel 7, and the performance hybrid architecture that debuted with last generation's Alder Lake chips."

7900x3D looks to be ultra potent!  If I break out of Intel it will be for the 7900x3D or whatever they call this gen Vcache CPU.  

Is it just me or does it looks like AMD fans hyjacked this thread ? 

This is about the 12900k vs the 13900k.

I admit, the only fan I consider myself of is MSFS itself, anything else  - whatever floats my boat. now back to  topic: 12900k-vs-13900k-vs-7900x3D 😁, to give this thread any justification.

now hush, back into the pretty cockpit of yours and fly that airliner, knowing it will fly much faster come the 7900x3D.
