MSFS : 12900K vs 13900K both using a 4090

Recommended Posts

12900K@4.9Ghz vs 13900K&5.5Ghz

scroll to 7:28 for MSFS

About 12% more fps :3-FD2-DBC5-BE8-B-431-B-A120-BE6-A5-EE60-

If the 12900k is running at 5.1Ghz instead of 4.9Ghz than the difference might be around 10% in favor of the 13900k.

I was planning on upgrading my ~1 year old system (see sig) in the near future,

Given the recent performance (very good) of my current system and the somewhat underwhelming numbers I've been seeing from the next gen CPUs and GPUs, I'll probably wait for a bit now. Maybe snag a 3090 in the mean time.

Did you watch your own video?  The MSFS part in particular?  They look pretty even to me.  Certainly neither looks much better than the other.  Cheaper, yeah I hear you on that.

Tom’s hardware shows the 5800x3D to be about 25% faster than the 13900k. There is a giant thread at the msfs forums of people upgrading to it and sharing their impressive results. The 13900k is a fine processor for a high end computer but if you want MSFS performance it’s slower.   In the MSFS forums we were positing results that are 15-25 Frames better than 12900k at busy airports.

I am of course talking about MSFS video sequence

"Certainly neither looks much better than the other"

If it's cheaper for the same performance it's necessarily better especially at 300 euros difference.

I don't regret my purchase of my 5800X3D, you can't even imagine what it can do in MSFS with even an old GTX1080 .

MSFS V sync on 30fps smooth as silk like I've never seen.

You have to remember a 5800X3D is AM4 platform so it may not actually be worth upgrading to now if you don't already own an AM4 motherboard. If money is no object then sure but if it was myself and I was looking to do a new build then I would look at AM5 or Intels new range or wait even longer for AMD to release a similar CPU on AM5.

As far as I can see it : at 2K resolution the AMD shows higher fps. At resolutions of 1440 or higher the Intel shows higher fps …

I would be careful with those overlay YouTube channels as a valid source for a $700 purchase. There are a lot of interesting comments on their other videos.

Again, the 13900k is a fast processor in many many ways from all the data and benchmarks out there. However, the data from places like forum threads with the actual users testing real scenarios and lots of links to trusted testing sites by forums members consistently shows that the 5800x3D produces more frames than any other processor in CPU bound situations.

If anyone has a 13900k or 12900k paired with a 3090 or 4090 I’ll be more than happy to objectively test some scenarios so we can help the community get good data. We all just want to know who gives us the most FPS when we taxi, take off, and land and big airports right?

It amazes me anyone cares about this stuff and rest their laurels on tons of unqualified results and synthetic benchmarks. See my Sig. See my specs. I'm still completely happy with my MSFS experience.

Are you happy with your experience [Y/N]?

If no proceed to upgrade

If yes. Carry on

The other point is that the 5800x3d is older than the Intel 13900k.  I don't believe the 13900k has demonstrated that it has taken down the champ based on comparison on this site and the other.  Even if it did, once the X3D of the AM5 is released it will certainly take it right back.

Hmmm quite interesting. Not the Intel or 4090 stuff but I never checked before if it would make sense to update my AM4 platform. Looks like. For my part I will stay amd only... Proven a good solution here for a lot less money... And power... And no melting... 🙂

Cheers T.

thanks, now ask him to fly into an unoptimised airport in bad weather in the fenix, let me know he gets on..

The other point that is not often stated is power usage.

I trust results that other MSFS users get over these side-by-side videos.  There have already been poorly tested or outright fake youtube videos already, regarding the 13th gen.

And as was said, it's one thing to overfly with clear weather in a default aircraft.  But its another matter entirely to fly with a complex aircraft in heavy weather and traffic.  I'd love to see a side-by-side like that.
