We just have to agree on some standardized test settings.

by then I may have one of these Metro Lakes:

Multi-Billion Intel had to ask TSMC to help them out, after all these years they still haven't mastered 5 nm process technology. to top it off, Intel calls it "Intel 4" 😀

"The 14th Gen Meteor Lake chips are based on a TSMC 5nm GPU architecture".

there is hoping they will finally have similar watt/performance ratings as AMD.

The fact that I can't find a 4090 at MSRP is making me wish I picked up a 3090 Ti on Amazon 2 weeks ago for $999.

Yeah my initial thoughts are: empty community folder (I don't own anything from the marketplace so not sure how to factor that), xbox controller or simple joystick.  Pick two or three spots.  Photogrammetry city in the US which seem to be the hardest on FPS, then big addon airport like KBOS or KLAX, and finally simple airfield with no photogrammetry.  Pick a gate and runway to taxi to, use the automatic start up, push back and taxi to the runway.  Run CapFrameX for 4 or 5 minutes.  With the 172 G1000 you could probably just start on the runway, climb at 500fpm and pick a heading.  Could try it on clear weather since clouds are mostly GPU.  Then it's a matter of sorting the settings.  Probably default Ultra, maybe DLSS Quality just to off load the GPU, make sure we are on the same resolution (4k? How would we do 1440p?).  Something like that, it's a lot when you write it out but I think it's simple enough if we got on the same page.

Going to see how much the framerate might have improved today. But I can only compare it to the same situations where I used the 12900k.

Too scared to try an AMD huh, they might be more available, but maybe not. I'm assuming it's going to be hard to get one until March 2023, unfortunately. Within a week or two, the new AMD GPU benchmarks will start coming out, and we might be able to get a general idea what we are looking at. Tomorrow, we will find out the release date and AMD will tell us exactly what is available.

I agree. 2-3 airports, same time, clear skies preset, empty community folder. I have some (not many) marketplace addons. Could easily just delete those for testing though.

I suggest default KLAX (included in standard package) as the most demanding airport. Would be good to test with an airliner. PMDG, Fenix, A32NX? Either taxi from a gate to a runway or taking off.

A flight in the C172 straight over Manhattan could be a test for the most demanding PG scenery. Just have to agree on the conditions though. Start in the air? Take off from KLGA specific runway then climb to 1000ft on a specific heading?

Third test could e.g. WU#5 BIIS Ísafjörður take-off in the C172.

Perhaps 4K, DX12, DLSS_Q, ultra preset.

Is it because of your advanced setup? Or could you run these tests I mentioned above so we could compare 5800X3D, 12900KF and 13900KF?

Shouldn't you be using the most taxing settings for the CPU, for example T-LOD at 400?

Gents, today i got my ne PC. Specs as follows:

I9-13900KF - Corsair H150i 360mm CPU Water cooling - ASUS ROG Strix Z690-F Wifi - DDR5-6200 64 GByte RAM - Geforce 4090 MSI Gaming Trio and some other stuff.

*******, Frames in MSFS are nearly doubled for me, that is really crazy. Before i had a 9900K at 5Ghz and a 2080TI and no water cooling

Only thing i wonder is that the sim is crashing seconds after starting MSFS in DX12...... Any ideas on this ? DX11 runs without probs. Latest driver installed

Time to take a test flight

We could do that. That's higher than ultra though. I would suggest using the ultra preset which is TLOD200.

Congratulations on your new rig. Doesn't get more top-spec than that.

Sorry I don't have a suggestion for the DX12-CTD. Hopefully someone else does, either here or on the official forums.

I'm curious about cost, too. I've been wanting to upgrade for a while, but usually if I do I want to go big. I don't like upgrading more than every 4-5 years, if I can help it.
