Apologies, I mixed up my scientists. Too busy dealing with nonsense. 😏

You may want to try it at least once with a zero blade. I used either a 1 or a 2 for years but I like the zero much better.

Too scared.

Erwin's twin brother?

Dugald Walker

My apologies to Erwin. I was using the spelling found in The Alien's Guide To Earth Science.

You're quite the pompos individual. You must be a professor or something to that effect. You use a system of reasoning to support your point of view but when the very same system of reasoning offers up doubt as well as support for your point of view you choose to ignore it. You can always tell when there is bias in an interlocutor. There the one who claims "Zero Bias". You can post links to articles that support your point of view and I can post links that support mine. All that says is that the real experts on the subjects disagree about many thing. You're guilty of intellectual arrogance go learn some humility and while you are at it get yourself an epistemology book and look up the difference between "know and believe" and while you're at it Argument Ad Hominem. I'll take a guess that you are used to being around people who just agree with you all the time. A word to the wise. That doesn't mean they think your right.😉

I see your article doesn't deny LUCA. I can tell you just reading the first couple of paragraphs of that article I could raise a whole bunch of challenges to that kind of thinking. The suggestion is that life arouse many time easily and due to mass extinction only one of those instance survived AND then very quickly subsequent to that something changed so that life couldn't arise easily anymore. How convenient! 🤣 And if anyone hear actually had more than an anecdotal knowledge of  Quantum Mechanic the phrase copenhagen interpretation would have slipped of someones tongue once the dead cat was mentioned.

What if there is a pattern in the universe.  A map of how to evolve creatures like ourselves that comes with every planet in the Goldilocks zone.  Much like the patterns my wife used to get to make dresses.

They weren't all exactly the same.  The colors changed and minor alterations to cold be made according to her latest whim or state of mind.

Maybe the planets that can support life are much like our earth with different types of people in different places.  Like the pygmies and Masai..the long and short of the species in Africa.  Or the Eskimos or the Chinese or the South Sea Islanders or the Causcasians of Europe.  We all developed differently and we all looked strange when we first came upon them.  And each of us had differences in our eating and living habits.

Perhaps those Goldilocks planets are like that.  Inhabited by people much different than we are but also much alike.  Like the two different dresses my wife sewed together from the same pattern.

Or maybe my imagination egts the best of me sometimes.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Kinda reminds me of that other article posted about ALL the ET's being asleep. Yeah all of them except us! Just Like ALL of the other instances or primordial life became extinct. Except the one that we and Jelly fish came from.

I think that intelligent alien life is going on right next to us.

Turtles and robins that read magnetic fields.
Snakes that 'see' with their tongues.
Elephants that communicate with subsonic vibrations.
Owls that can 'hear' mice under two feet of snow.
Spiders that can 'hear' a fly across the room.

As I read this book and its explanation of perception, I'm learning that we really don't know much at all. There are a multitude of universes that we are not aware of all around us, but we cannot 'see' them from the windows of our 'house'. What else can we not see?

I checked my library to see if this book was available; 78 holds so I bought it. Now I see why. 🙂

An Immense World

Cheers,
Mark

@newtie Fabulous stuff! I remember being at a conference and slid into an unrelated conference talk far from my interests. Well I was blown away by one of the best presentations that I ever heard - mechanisms used by the monarch butterfly to migrate thousands of miles. One of the cues for direction is based on the Earth’s magnetic fields! They have sort of an internal magnetic compass that keeps them flying south!

The introduction has a hypothetical situation where there are nine animals in a gymnasium and how each 'sees' what's going on. Each animal is living in and perceiving an entirely different environment.

I think I see where this book is going. Every animal, including us, is living in a perception based reality. What we perceive is a very small part of a much larger symphony.

Now this I agree with because the one thing we have immediate knowledge of is the objects of our own experience.

Please stop the projection.  The entire sentence quoted above is nothing less than argumentum ad hominem. If you cannot make your presentation without projecting your own shortcomings as a debater, then I may be forced to give you a brief vacation from participation via AVSIM.

I had almost posted something similar. A few articles I had read pointing out that colors don't really exist, only wavelengths, and that the way humans see the world is simply an interpretation by our minds....

And in the universe there may by thousands of ways to interpret reality, many possibly completely beyond our experience and maybe understanding.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.
