FS 2004 files...I'm amazed!

Without these....whats>the point?>>MannyI find FSX fine just as is, with FS9 I loaded up on 3rd party extras as you really had too, but now FSX great to pass some time now and then. The day I have a PC that will run the extras you mentioned is a long time off for FSX.I like the free F18 and usually fly it around western Canada airports where I get decent frame rates, the default mesh and landclass is OK, all it needs is better rivers in Canada.

Yeah I was kinda thinking the same thing myself...Especially when you look at the original acft section for FSX and don't find much...yeah there's some but I'm talking about those glorious freeware releases not like the little 2MB fs98 era airplanes ;)The thing is, when I play fs9 I like my AI and DF, F1, planes, but then I remember how cool and crisp the new ground textures are in FSX, so I load that up. Then I fly a bit and my textures get blurry, so I go back to FS9 LOL. It's a vicious cycle.... :(Then I realize how much I miss real world flying and go obsess about flying something.....then how much $$$ that will cost lol...and so on and so on....So then I get fed up with aviation (even though it is my career) and watch some TV haha

I'm amazed as well. It's been nearly a year since FSX was released, and the new aircraft repaints are still labelled as "FS2004". I've been monitoring the uploads over the past few weeks, and it speaks volumes: Less than ten percent of the most recent files are for FSX! The remainder of new releases are FS9.I'm confident that ACES will create a World-beating simulation with FSXI. There is no way that FSX will become as dominant as FS2004 was/is. The inertia has been going for too long.

I will not be first in line to purchase (beta test) MSFSXI. I will read about it first exxt time!! Unless ... MS gives all registered owners of MSFSX a free (deserved) upgrade to MSFSXI!>I'm amazed as well. If anything, I think there's a bit of a migration back to FS9. I'm amazed at how many downloads some of my files get. Such as this one, I mean, come one... ;-D--------------------------------------------------It was for me, Mike. When FSX first came out, I saw people spending THOUSANDS of dollars on a NEW or to upgrade their computer in anticipation of the RTM.It happened,---and all h*LL broke loose. I was shocked to see some of the latest and most powerful configurations the guys and gals created, could not run at 30 FPS and higher, stutters, general snafus.I was only glad that I had waited to see what this offering would do. Until I see FS10 or FS11 perform 'out-of-the-box' with CURRENT on day of release, high-end hardware---on that day I will see if going beyond FS9 is merited.I'm tired of 'making do'... I went back to FS9 and have present equipment that makes it scream! The newly-added monitor takes the experience over the top...My two cents...Mitch

Wow! Thanks for all the responses. You've answered some of my questions. However, after all of those responses, I'm still amazed when I fly FSX with Photoreal Hawaii scenery, and when I feel the phenomenal improvements in just the DEFAULT aircraft in FSX. I use the Kingair 350 out of my home airport as the default aircraft, and the difference between FSX and FS9 in this respect is like night and day. Thanks again, Stan

Wat zei je over het Nederlands? ;-D

Mike...

Has anyone noticed the parallels between Vista and FSX?Both share similar problems regarding performance and reliability, have new features that make things more complicated, instead of user-friendly (DEP, UAM, FSX10, backward compatibility) and have been generally less enthusiastically received by the community than previous versions.Almost one year after the release of FSX, Vista is still lacking drivers, both products are lacking FSX10 support (Aero, FSX) and FSX is lacking hugely popular add-ons (FS Nav, Flight Keeper, FS Passengers, PMDG) that helped making FS9 a success. Granted, SP1 was a welcome and well-executed surprise, but it should've made it into RTM in the first place.Pat

The PC magazines have been really trashing Vista-----big time. Full page articles!! In fact they have been trashing MS in general!!Bruce

Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. Klaatu barada nickto.

Same here, and have been riding the FSX coaster ever since and things seem to be smoothing out nicely with Ultimate Terrain, Scenerytech landclass, MytrafficX and ASX/AGX.The OOM fix seems to have helped some too and I'm simming at a happy 21 fps, nailed and loving the views flying around Washington state currently in the DO-17 from Digital Aviation, wonderful aircraft. If want to speed it up I jump in the Alphasim SR71 and cruise around at Mach 3 at 85k. If I want to play airline pilot I hop in the 737 PIC or ERJ and pop around regional airports or the majors in the midwest. If I want to do some low and fast piston propping I'll climb in the SF-260 or maybe do some remote flying in the Alaskan Bush flying in the Scout with those big bloody tires. Really looking forward to UT Alaska and Canada.Still trying to figure out what the fuss is about, funny enough I'm having a wonderful time with the sim and oddly haven't felt the desire to land at JFK although with the SF260 I can fly around most other cities with a good 17-21 (locked) without problems at the settings I enjoy. For those doing the leapfrog, see you at FS11, and I sincerely hope FSX can pull through, if not I know I'll at least be enjoying it.Ian.

Having seen quite a bit of FSX on other machines, I really don't see that it looks any better than FS2004 - once the latter has PMDG, Active Sky, GE Pro, FS Genesis mesh (and so on and so forth) installed on top of it - and most users of FS2004 will surely have many of these available add-ons installed by this time. With the help of all the great payware and freeware that has been made for FS9, my setup looks just wonderful and I also get good performance; I can't see much reason to take a drop in frame rates, not to mention the hassles of a full reinstall of FS and all my 'eye candy' stuff by purchasing FSX... All IMHO of course!!Martin :-)
