Just a silly post...

If I am in the house, paying bills, watching TV, listening to music, I just have to get a plane in the air while I am doing these tasks. Am I alone? if so, I will seek a therapist. 🙂

I barely get into the air these days... usually doing a repaint or tweaking something, or downloading updates on flightsim.to - then it's time for work or a child needs me etc haha

we all are 😄

I was the same way, and still am to a lesser extent now. When I was in high school, I had to have a flight going in order to get my homework done haha. I tried to get everything done before descent. It added pressure so I'd complete my work on time!

I'm waiting on a replacement video card because my creaky old 1080Ti is no longer cutting it in the world of MSFS with VR. So I've stopped flying until it gets here because it's more frustrating to fly than not to fly.  But it's pretty frustrating not to fly. 😉

I'll often get a plane up to cruise altitude, then let it go while I work for 6-8 hours before it's time to land.

VR is just much more involving, so I sim less.

I'll log into MSFS in 2D just to tinker with things briefly.

I could simply start a flight throw on autopilot, then put the headset down and walk away to do other things, but was never my idea of simming.

Maybe not the idea.but my only possibility to cover MSFS, work and family. Since flying tubeliners 99% this is as real as it gets anyway. I do the takeoff and landing and at flight level I just follow the flight in terms of checking if the AP follows the plan as expected with little corrections where necessary. Some may find this boring but this is my only way to get my flight/work/life balance

I've been back in MSFS for a little while now and it's working pretty well. Actually the Riva Tuner along with the PMDG 737-700 BBJ are my friends in MSFS now. I can do some pretty nice long hauls. When I'm up at cruise and I need to do other things I just minimize the window and bring the frames down to 2 per second. Don't look at the sim when it's like that. Not sure if I could go lower, but the computer gets very quiet and the flights run just fine. No need to adjust graphic settings back and forth, what I was trying recently. Just alt+enter to get out of fullscreen, minimize window, set low frames and the computer also cools down very quickly in addition to getting quiet. Flight times and fuel burn seem to run well according to plan. When I want to pop back into the cockpit for a while to look outside and check up on things I just bring the frames back up to a normal level (only about 15 for me, but hey, it works for me!) I bypassed P3D as I didn't have a decent computer until fairly recently and went from FSX: SE straight into MSFS. In FSX I enjoyed the 777-200LR for ultra long hauls (although I preferred the 747-400 and the Aerosoft DC8 for the subjective feeling of actually flying), so yes, I've been having one sim or another running in the background a lot, and flying a lot.

FSX might still be easier for me to mix flying longhauls with doing other stuff, but the graphics in MSFS are like a Siren, the kind who sits up on a cliff and threatens to shipwreck me. Beautiful but not without some hassles. But still finding it harder and harder to resist the looks of MSFS.

My toddler (daughter) loves flying with me. So, at least there's another excuse to keep flying. I'd often catch her (as I'm getting a cup of coffee) in the captains chair, headset on and pushing every button.... pushing and pulling the yoke. I let her have fun but my flying statistics aren't always the best. 😃

Haha  Many of my flights "end" ubruptly with her around. Which is funny because I am real stickler for following procedures, plans, landings and ATC contact (pilot2atc).

So yeah, having a plane going, reading a book, cooking etc is norm around here. Have not had a CTD in months now.

I fell down the SDK rabbit hole 4 weeks ago,   and I haven't had time for flight or for sleep ever since.   Dev work is like being stuck in a time warp.   Lately I spend more time in Blender and the project manager.

I keep trying to make the Saturday "Sim Soaring Club" events,   but work has interfered for the last few weeks.    Need to spend some more time with the Pasped Skylark and the Caribou,  and my DG-808s is starting to growl at me when I walk in the door.

Being on solar these days I tend to slewing to within 2 hours of destination (and close to supper time) to complete the approach.  To each his / her own to flight simming I guess.

Enjoy

I never did understand the point of starting a flight and then walking away from it.  I won't bother firing up the sim unless I want to sit there and sim for an hour or two.  Just my take though; we all enjoy it differently.

I walk away or even go to bed once the plane starts cruising, Volanta on iPhone does a great job of monitoring the flight path when I am away from the flight deck.

I would like to be able to have TWO planes in the air! So once the airliner is in Cruise I can do some VFR flying ( keeping an eye on it from a pop up widow) while waiting for TOD.😂
