Is the night lighting better now than it used to be?

It is pretty crazy how subjective it is. I absolutely love it, especially in VR. Was just buzzing around Baltimore doing a performance test at night, and it was incredible. The slight ground illumination, draw distance, etc. I do miss how with orbx we were able to change the size of the bulb…if I had my way, I’d make the orbs a bit smaller, otherwise I think it looks amazing.

You actually can, but its a bit trickier than that. I dont know what resolution you are running but put:

    PrimaryScaling 0.500000
    SecondaryScaling 2.000000

...in the user.cfg. it will make the screen a lot less blurry immediately while maintaining your resolution with the same performance. Especially light dots are reduced to a reasonable size with this one. Combine it with the sharpening option as you prefer.

I use it on 1080p with TAA so i dont know, but in theory it should work with any resolution.

Yesterday for a change I did a night flight into Calgary and was quite impressed with the night lighting.

Sometimes the night lighting can be striking - other times it's just like a black hole.  I experienced this last night after I landed at dusk in Merida, Venezuela:

The night lighting over Bear City CA was awesome tonight.  Actually all of South Cali night lighting was great.  Amazing really.

Night lighting always seems to look its best during dawn and dusk hours.

Some night lighting is stunningly good and detailed like this shot in Sophia, Bulgaria:

My biggest problem with night in MSFS is that not all roads and freeway lit . But in MSFS AI populate “light pols” everywhere, along every road

The cities with photogrammetry rendered high rises are extremely poorly done at night. You can barely see them. Very disappointing. Normally rendered areas are fine. Although there was a time when lights in the distance became blurry blobs. Not sure if that’s still an issue as I haven’t flown at night for awhile.

Not to mention the millions of football/soccer fields all lit up at the same time bringing the worlds energyproviders to their knees.

The biggest issue I have is with the moon.  I feel like every night flight I do, the moon is out and it illuminates the ground for miles.  You can see every mountain and more.  Even the star graphic (also terrible) is bright and blue.  I feel like when I first got the sim the sky was dark and the cities looks decent.  Now it's this awful bright environment that won't go back to normal.
