OK, I'm a yank so none of my business but I'm going to but in anyway. IMHO Elizabeth is the last of the great ones. In my heart that great lady will always sit on that throne, in spirt at least.

Don't forget "I Was Glad" by Parry. Gets me every time. Played at the wedding of William and Kate in 2011.

Very enjoyable listen. Thanks for that.

'Valid' and 'British tabloid' can scarcely be in the same sentence, no?

😉

It’s not a newspaper I read but the site is genuine. Did you know “The Times” is now published in tabloid form? Easier to read on the Tube apparently. 😁

Here's the recording from 1953 to keep you going until Saturday. Old Brits may remember Richard Dimbleby, the commentator:

All Creatures Great and Small.

I think I remember Siegfried Farnum installed his first telly in '53 at Skeldale House in order to watch the coronation. Only to be called out to attend a difficult calving in the Dales. Luckily the farmer had moved his set out into the barn. Siegfried had his arm up the cow's backside while straining his neck around to watch.  But the picture on the screen kept rolling and tilting.

If it's like every past coronation for three centuries, then we shall hear:

Zadok the Priest. And Nathan the prophet. Have crown-ed Solomon King.

And all the people rejoiced. Rejoiced and said.

God save the King. Long live the King. May the king live forever.

Amen, alleluia, amen.

(Handel the German often for instance uses 'crown-ed' instead of crowned for verb past tenses).

Actually, Handel was a naturalised British subject for most of his life. Crown-ed is only to fit in with the music.

Not any more. That has been changed. They realised it was probably not the best idea the Archbishop has ever had.

Oh right, I'm glad about that. I was thinking I was in a Game of Thrones episode.

I wonder if it actually was the Archbishops idea. 🤔

He added the extra -ed when he lived in Italy and wrote Italian Operas (e.g. Alcina). And in England when he wrote Chrisitan, Jewish, and Pagan oratorios. e.g. Messiah, Israel in Egypt, Alexander's Feast. So it must have fit quite a lot of Handel's music.

Handel's pagan Alexander's Feast: the libretto is adapted from the poet laureate John Dryden, so the words are real literature. Handel uses the extra -ed in it. Unlike Henry Purcell's King Arthur oratorio from roughly the same time, that libretto was also by the great poet Dryden.

I guess Sunak isn't very tall (lower right). Unlike Biden and Trump upper left. Charles near the middle.
