Headwinds A330 - current status

Featured Replies

Hello,

Looking for comments / updates on the current state of the HW A330.  Specifically, is LNAV working ?   Does the Autopilot reliably follow a flight plan ?  I am seriously considering giving this bird a try, since my patience for a 777 release is running thin lately.  😐

TIA,

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

100% download this plane. It's got a working LNAV/VNAV. It's essentially the stable version of the FBWA320's cockpit, paired with the external model / range capabilities of the A330. HW is working on a completely new A330 cockpit, but for now, I really think this plane suffices and scratches the long haul itch for me.

I find that the 787-10 with the upcoming AAU2  update is the better option (for me at least). Only drawback is you putting everything in the box (FMC). Which i kinda don't mind. I needed the practice anyway and takes 5 mins or less if you know what you're doing.

Yes.

This plane definitely works. I just flew from Munich to Boston with no problems at all.

Currently flying from FCO to DTW and no issues so far.  I've waited for a while to download and now that it has working vnav I figured I'd give it a go.  Just too bad that the performance is as bad as the FBW 320 for me and I've got a pretty good system.

That's strange. I have a 3080 and a 3 year old Intel (I can't remember. i7 11000???) and I don't have any issues with performance. Most of my settings are on ultra. Im confused as to why you have problems with it, considering your setup.

No idea.  I can lock 60FPS with the PMDG in just about any scenario but with the FBW and HW I struggle and it stutters.  I use vsync since I don't have a gsync monitor so that may help.  But I just can't get it smooth with any setting if I can't maintain 60fps.

What about a correct TOD? Is that working as well in the latest version?

Thanks

Yes.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I love flying this plane, it's like a big version  of the FBW 320. I "flew" it from Atlanta to KLAX yesterday with no problems whatsoever. My only gripe is that on my system the TOD indicator constantly flashes on and off. That said the TOD is accurate and once reached, the aircraft correctly follows the VNAV flight path down to the runway.

If PMDG manage to release the 777 this year for MSFS, then 2023 is looking like the year of long hauler airliners for MSFS.  After the release of the study level airliners back in April/May of last year, a lot of people complained in 2022 that there were no good long haul options to fly in MSFS, until the iniBuilds A310 came to MSFS.

Now we are seeing some decent long haul options in MSFS in 2023, with the Headwind A330 getting better, and the Working Title 787 and 747 in AAU2. And of course, the iniBuilds A310 as well.  All that is left to make 2023 a really great year for MSFS long haulers is the release of the PMDG 777.
