There are cage type muzzles for most dogs, which would solve the biting problem but there is probably a lot of resistance from the owners. The dogs can still run about and pant and sniff things, which is all they want to do. The only thing they couldn't do is eat dog poop, so that's another benefit, isn't it?

"Over the years, the Darwins owned terriers (Nina, Spark, Pincher, Sheila, Polly), a retriever (Bob), a Pomeranian (Snow) and even larger hunting dogs like Darwin's college Pointer and, later in life, a Scottish Deerhound (Bran)."

But, funnily enough, no beagle.

Is this comment based on the fact that he treated dogs (and babies, children and adults) with a modicum of respect with no wish to imperil either the humans or the dogs

First, the filter in the human gene pool ceased proper functioning many, many decades ago.  Second, I think movies that depict animals as having human feelings and actions have brainwashed those who probably should have been filtered out by the gene pool filter.

There are certainty many emotions and indeed actions that are common to  animals and humans. What we shouldn't forget though, is that animals are influenced by their instincts more than we are. Sometimes those instincts are activated whether the animal likes it or not.

we have to give people days off now for dogs, for example vets appointments we are no longer allowed to say "can your partner take the dog to the vet, can your parents take the dog to the vet, can your friend take the dog to the vet"

why you may ask.  Because according to HR they are "for emotional support for mental health"  A poorly cat is a good enough reason to be removed from roster.

15 years ago when I was cabin crew, if i called in to say i wasnt going to make a flight due to the doggy being a bit poorly id of been in HR very very quickly.  Now HR tell us to remove crew from flights for it, Madness.

Things got so bad in America that airlines were allowing all sorts of 'support animals' onto flights. So as not to discriminate against types. After some Youtube videos of the resulting mayhem, airlines began tightening the rules a bit.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

This whole topic defines 2 fools and two innocent beings. The dog owner and the father are both fools for letting this happen. Naturally the two innocents were the child and dog. Dogs react to stimuli emitted from others, in this case either the father or the child. So happy nothing serious happened.

Thank you.

Could I have a Komodo Dragon as a support animal. Dont see why not. I think he would be quite well behaved on a flight really.

They may have to clean the seats up a bit after all of his bacteria ridden slobber, but that's okay, no big deal.

I think this is part of the reason why the world is so polarized.  Or at least in the West anyway.  In my opinion, it isn't about dumb, reckless, irresponsible, clueless, deadbeats or criminals.  As we saw with the mess with the pandemic, each and every one of us has a different tolerance for risk.  We are each capable of assessing that on our own.  We don't need a government, or the 40 or 50% it sounds like you consider yourself a part of, to tell us what level of risk we can accept or not.  So to automatically cast "the others" in this way is not really the right way to view it, in my opinion.  Some prefer to live their life as close to inside a safe bubble as possible and never take any risk, never leave their homes.  Others would rather launch themselves into space or deep underwater.  It's not dumb.  It's just what each person is willing to accept when it comes to risk.  Just because someone will get in what essentially was a water heater from Home Depot and dive 14,000 down in the ocean or whatever it was doesn't make them stupid.  They were just people who were willing to accept that risk.

I disagree...I'd say visiting the Titanic in a Water Heater from Home Depot is not only stupid...it's a "Special Kind of Stupid". These guys not only threw the baby out with the bath water but left common sense at home too. I agree some things are risky but when you throw caution to the wind...well that's another story...there is a point of going to far which I think they did...horrible situation.
