Lots to consider in these last few replies.

The reality is for many, today's release is pretty underwhelming. That thought can coexist with the curiosity of what the future for this title may bring. LM may sunset P3D in it's current form and bring something bigger and better which has a new name and whizbang graphics and things we never considered. We won't know.

Today tho, the some truths are v6 looks and feels mostly the same as before and you have a license to enjoy the sim as you wish. Nothing more, nothing less.

@ZLA Steve, I’m curious. On what are you basing your thoughts? Not just the short video released by LM a week or so back?

Please tell me you’ve seen another video or perhaps you’ve bought and installed v6.

As stated earlier in another thread, I spent about 2+ hours watching a live stream as well as seeing pics and videos from other sites. 
I will install it later this evening when I can spend some time checking it out but it's pretty easy to base opinions on everything I've seen so far.

Completely agree and for Ray, yes I purchased and installed v6 this morning. To say I was underwhelmed would be an understatement. The software delivers nothing new of substance to the genre and from what I can see it changes nothing from a performance perspective.

My honest take is LM wants to be done with the academic/personal market and have taken steps to ensure no real development will occur in that space.

That’s unfortunate for LM because they are going to lose thousands of unpaid testers (us) in the process. 

So is the online requirement a continuous requirement? Or is an online connection needed only for startup?

What happens if you disconnect from the internet during a flight?

 

Its obvious from the screenshots that this product is geared more for military simulation. Afterall, thats what Lockheed Martin is....Its kinda a DCS on steriods, imo.

Not really my thing, although my son loves that stuff.

This "unpaid tester" narrative really has to go.

You aren’t a beta tester as much as I or anyone else here is. You paid money for a product and got exactly what it offered in return including 4-5 free updates during it's lifecycle.

Don’t pretend that LM didn’t use our feedback, forum posts, and bug reports to fix their product.  They had thousands of sets of our eyes on their release. All of those are now going to disappear. 

So by this definition, I am currently an “unpaid tester” for Volvo, Garmin, Eurocopter, Apple, Vans footwear and a host of other companies because I use their products in my daily life.

I couldn't care less what PMDG or any other payware aircraft developer decides to do with their products.  Most of them are simply in this for the money, and PMDG, for one, has certainly demonstrated this in the past.

I have a full fleet of airliners - 717, 737 classics, NG, and Max, 747, 757, 767, 777, 787, A319-321 + Neo, A330, A350, CRJ 200-1000, EMB E-Jet 170-195, DHC8 200-400 - all freeware.  The only money I've spent is on realistic payware sounds.  I get 99% of the enjoyment flying them as I did flying the expensive PMDG, Aerosoft, and Captainsim planes in the past.

The only payware planes I've bought are Carenado, as there isn't much on offer as far as good freeware general aviation aircraft.  If Carenado refuses to update their planes, then I'll look for alternatives.

I'm tired of the payware flightsim products drama, waiting and hoping that developers will generously deign to fix and/or update products that they've been paid for.  I doubt that updating to v5 or v6 requires a major overhaul of the product.  I understood the necessity of major work to go from 32-bit to 64-bit, but I don't believe that kind of work would be required here.  Perhaps I'm wrong, and if it turns out I am, then I'll admit I was wrong.

Guess you work for free? Does any business operate to just break even? How would they ever develop new products without the capital to do so? Feelings don't equal reality.
