No ATC Voices

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I finally broke down and rebuilt my computer with some great components, reusing what I could from the old 3090 build.

So everything is brand new, from the Windows 11 Pro system and down to every application I had before (Phew!).

MSFS is working great with the new build, but I noticed two things either odd, or I just don't remember how to adjust:

1. There are no ATC voices. The ATC window is working fine. I went all through the assistance options and I thought I had the right one(s) turned on but no voices. I have the sim and Windows sound device selected correctly. I can hear the engine and cockpit sounds, just no ATC.

2. I seem to remember that you could set something, maybe somewhere in the Assistance options, so that the ATC messages were responded to by, maybe the invisible copilot?

Thanks, as always ........... Rob

You aren't missing much...."GOOD DAY!" 😜

Seriously, I have never had this problem.  I seem to remember someone mentioning an assistance option for communication devices..?

You are not alone @Rob G

I have experienced this as well... latest last night flying the A2A Comanche. It's happened in other planes as well, but overall only a handful of times.

Never managed to find a fix while the sim is running and strangely - as you describe - all other sounds and the ATC window/log are working fine. I faffed around with MSFS settings, Windows settings etc. but the voices never come back.

Each time the problem has been rectified for the next flight by restarting the sim...

In my case restarting the sim is not helping.

OK, this is a long shot but based on a similar experience with the traffic settings a week ago. For a while I was having issues with AI traffic lights and for some reason a cycling of all the related settings seemed to normalize things 🙂

Have you tried to cycle the setting for ATC voices - and maybe restart in between?

Can't remember where the setting is, but I've seen it last night when I was struggling with this issue.

Isn't ATC voices based on the Windows native improved speech synthesis? I remember having lost ATC voices at some point, where I had to mess around with my Windows language settings and make sure I had the English (US) speech pack installed and activated or some such.

I experienced an ATC "loss of communication" a few days ago. Funny thing was that when the sim was paused ATC was fully audible, but it stopped again as soon as the sim was unpaused.

The problem with disappearing ATC voices is with the Azure voices. If you use offline they do not disappear.

I find that my receiving audio button is not pushed, or pushed to an inactive freq, and most times remain that way as other have said not missing anything, besides its all readable in the atc log.

I have my sim set to Offline. I have tried everything but I still have no atc voices inbound or outbound. Oty suggestuher sounds all seem to be working. I cannot find any more suggestions on the web that I haven't already tried. I just can't find the problem.

Some com radios have a rotary volume knob. (The GTN has a sliding graph indicator). Make sure your volume is turned up.

I too have loss commications with ATC. Initially I was concerned but now I am enjoying the sim without ATC and loving the peace and quiet 😊
