Due to traffic congestion these are used in NYC more than elsewhere. Lithium batteries of course. Never understood the fascination in them. By the way, what are the statistics on lithium batteries catching fire in cars? Wind turbine catches fire off British coast prompting evacuations | USA TODAY - YouTube The largest UK wind farm developer has halted development due unforeseen cost of repairs and rising prices. the UK government is now investing in more fossil fuel development along with other European countries. That's a bit misleading in two ways. Firstly, the UK Government doesn't invest: it grants licences for oil companies to invest in the North Sea. The government will collect taxes when those reserves come on-stream, not pay for the drilling. Secondly, it's not so much "more" development as replacement development as old reserves run out. This has got to make sense for two reasons: 1) the Ukraine war has shown you need energy security and ultimately that's more important than price and 2) you only stop carbon emissions by cutting demand, not supply. If the oil doesn't come from the North Sea, it'll come from somewhere else in polluting tankers, which increases emissions instead of reducing them. What the government should be doing (and isn't) is seeing that there is more investment in getting the infrastructure in place to support green energy. Nuclear generation to start with but also beefing up the grid to move all this electricity around (there is a wait of years to connect new wind and solar to the grid) and greatly increasing the number and quality of car charging points. Most of UK housing was built before 1919 and a lot of it (including mine) doesn't have off-road parking, so its owners would have to rely on public chargers. This explains the scale of the problem: https://uk.news.yahoo.com/electric-car-owners-issued-dire-warning-by-motorway-services-boss-091522987.html#:~:text=Ken McMeikan%2C chief executive of,facing the electric vehicle industry. August 20, 20232 yr It'll probably be another century before renewable energy replaces fossil fuels. I feel this is a thread destined to be locked. 🙄 Per capita, per 100,000 cars, hybrid are the worst with 3,475 fires per 100,000. Gas cars next with 1,150 per 100,000 cars. BEV's are next with only 25 fires in 100,000 cars. The other point is that gasoline cars can burn very rapidly and indeed, be explosive. Battery fires usually progress slowly giving the occupants time to escape. But then they are harder to put out. Newer batteries, like the LFP batteries in the Tesla Model Y and Model S are resistant to fire. In fact BYD demonstrate a metal spike passing through the battery without issue. In essence, its those in hybrid cars that need to worry more than those in gas cars or BEV's. Quote The result? Hybrid-powered cars were involved in about 3,475 fires per every 100,000 sold. Gasoline-powered cars, about 1,530. Electric vehicles (EVs) saw just 25 fires per 100,000 sold. “Despite the focus on EV fires in the news,” the researchers concluded, “they are not inherently more dangerous than gas or hybrid vehicles, although electric fires tend to be more difficult than gas fires to extinguish.” https://www.kbb.com/car-news/study-electric-vehicles-involved-in-fewest-car-fires/ Edited August 20, 20232 yr by martin-w

The whole narrative is starting to fall apart as reality sets in. You can bet that the powers that be will never admit they were wrong and will instead double down on their propaganda and govt. imposed BS, all the while flying to "conferences" on private jets and raking in billions through graft and insider trading.
