Spawning from gate to Runway

Featured Replies

Does anyone experiencing when starting your flight, choosing a gate and when you click FLY your plane will spawn in Runway instead of the gate selected?

Yes, it’s hit and miss. To avoid it I select my aircraft first (add desired tail number etc.) if needed, then select my departure airport. I do not select the gate (ramp starting point) by clicking on the white dots, I select my starting point from the upper drop down type list under the airport name above.

So far, that has been doing the trick.

Happy flying!

If you select the plane after selecting the airport/gate, it will always default to the runway. If you select the gate after the plane, then be sure it shows the gate/ramp spot on the drop down list before selecting FLY.

As @Wblackret said it usually only happens if I change aircraft after selecting departure gate. You can see in the input dialog departure drop down if the gate has been swapped out for the runway before hitting FLY and then just go through the departure selection again.

@mmcmah Great minds... You beat me to it.

If you're not careful it messes up the time of day too. (I have to set time last of all). I tend to fly in the evenings, but want to see the scenery.

The MSFS GUI is totally insane: 1/10 for useability, IMHO. I've occasionally been dumped onto the runway as well - and I'm pretty sure I was doing it [correctly] the same as always. The time of day thing also happens to me occasionally - even though I'm doing the procedure correctly.

It's odd to me that a sim that touts flying anywhere in the world is so restrictive in where it lets you start a flight.

Hard to do a bush tour when I save a flight and am then forced to start at a nearby airport runway or in the air.

Never had these issues on both my pc’s.

If you want to avoid this situation, follow this simple procedure:

  1. Import your flight plan (assuming you have one)
  2. Once the flight plan is on your planning page, then from the drop-down list, select your gate at the departure airport.

I select the airplane, then the airport and click on one of the gate dots on the map. Works each time, never went wrong.

I've never understood why they decided to do it this way, once the time is set then it's should stay the time you want it to be. Unless it's a bug that crept in, can't recall if it's always been like this but it's very annoying either way when planning.

This happens to me if I have loaded a SimBrief FP after choosing aircraft and gate.
