What's the VERDICT on P3d V6?

I'll respectfully disagree ... there is still A LOT that MSFS doesn't have that P3D had a long time ago simply because the MSFS SDK is rather limited in scope compared to P3D SDK/PDK.  If you doubt me statement, read thru the P3D SDK and PDK and then do the same with MSFS SDK ... it will be VERY clear what MSFS can't do.  I can provide a LONG LONG list of features P3D has that MSFS doesn't, but for the visual flier that list probably has no meaning or relevance to how they like to do flights.

But like I said before most of MSFS users don't care what's in an SDK, which is all good, to each his/her own.  But just wanted to clarify that product range in P3D is much much wider than MSFS.

Yes, but we were talking about sceneries.

It would be nice to stop the kind of comments that try to make MSFS users look like brainless kids.

Sure, I have most of my V5.x add-ons "working" in P3D V6.x, but making them "work" isn't really the objective ... having them use all the new features in V6 is the desire.  3rd party vendors were igno

Never tried it, since it broke compatibility with older addons again. I made a great effort to adjust my addons to v4 then v5 and did not want to go through this again, since I got much more addons si

If you want to fly a PMDG aircraft correctly scenery is of less importance, as it is in LM real pilot training simulators that the product is made for.

Yes if you restrict yourself to only a PMDG aircraft, and only actual real world routes, then you don't really care about the surrounding sceneries and you can fly them correctly both in P3D or in MSFS.

MSFS still does not support real world atmospherics like P3D. RS of PMDG said some time ago making the 747 a complex aircraft for MSFS is a tall order when the sim is still being developed. As a future update could break the aircraft compatibility. And the users tend to blame the addon developer.

You won`t see dune on P3D.Who knows the next one could be a flying bedstead.

This might have been true in the early days of that sim, but from the moment they released the first 737, there were no more issues, were there ?

Are you trying to imply that MSFS is only good for Sci-Fi addons, and the fact that these exist is a proof that "it's a game, not a sim" ?

Come on, you're either too old or not old enough for such non-sense.

A key question to ask "is there statutory approval and availablity for licensing as a commercial use training simulator".

And now the post inital release batch of v6 fixes are out they are no doubt working on whatever it is they do according to their own priorities.

Although personally and coming from an enterprise level software developement house, that is - software not generally publicly available (typically due to the 10s of thousands of $$ it cost), we would showcase coming plans and improvements at trade shows and in trade outlets, via demonstrations and trade forums, in other words advertise, demonstrate and talk up the software to those who were likely purchasers.

Where as LM are just the opposite - they rarely say a thing, plus their commerce website and forum are lacking in keeping up with the times, i.e. the forum is consistantly getting hacked by spammers, and both forum and commerce sites have ancient authentication requirements (likley why they get hacked), where I'd have thought being a big part of the military machine they would have greater emphasis on security and keeping their public facing outlet software up to date, e.g. posting in their forum for anything other than plain text requires hand placing tags throughout the post, sure it was top of the line 15~20 years ago but that's an eon in software time.

I assume since they flog P3D to the military, they include long contracts for support and development (probably many millions of $$) and the path of slow and steady is what they will take.

I also guess when MSFS is sold to the millitary and commercal use companies for statutory approved simulation it'll no longer be refered to as a game...

As you said, P3D is used by the military because LM is already a brand well respected in the military area and because of course it includes long term contract for support and development. LM also developped military scenarios in P3D, useful for the military. The military will never buy a product without those garantees and features.

That's the main reason why they use P3D; the fact that is used or not by the military doesn't make it a sim or a game. If LR or Microsoft/Asobo could bring those long term contracts for support and development and the military scenarios, Xplane and Msfs also could see an interrest by the military. Anyway, it seems both LR and Asobo don't show interrest for that and are more interrested by the leisure market.

In the case of msfs, considering the fact that Asobo is a french development studio, it could also be a big hurdle to work for the US military & government.

I purchased v6, last year, but then have been purchasing 6 month or 1 month Professional Licenses of v5 because the few aircraft I own are only v5 compatible...

I installed 5.4 but am seriously considering giving 5.3 HF2 a try although I do not own AIG... I've read somewhere 5.3 HF2 hammers the CPU less than 5.4.

?? I responded with facts about the P3D SDK/PDK being more robust than the MSFS SDK ... have read them on both sides?  Just pointing out your comment is inaccurate in regards to P3D, I made no mention of "brainless kids"?

The P3D SDK will always be more enhanced than the MSFS SDK. However, what we as entertainment customers are using is almost the same in both SDK’s…

The only aircraft I have installed to V6 is the Majestic Dash 8 as it has a V6 installer. i would like to have a few high end aircraft such as PMDG installed to V6 but I actually know next to nothing about doing the installs. That said i will have a look at the video, thanks.

MSFS excellent for "eye candy" and slow VFR flying.  That's how I use it!  However, P3dV5.4 is my absolute "go to" simulator.  It's absolutely awesome with its incredible addons and just pure enjoyment when flying long distances and ease of operation (especially with the AP).  Can't wait to fire up P3d tomorrow. I just flew from Estonia to Frankfurt for real because my wife and I took a vacation to the Baltic states (Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia) and as I was flying into Frankfurt, I noticed that the skyline was incredibly beautiful and it looked exactly the same when I flew into Frankfurt in P3d.  Perfect!
