However, to each his own but it's sad that many people will think he's correct.

What's worse than the person capitalizing on creating controversy are the people that enable this in the first place by parroting whatever the person says and feeding this behavior. If people made an effort to be less dependent on someone else doing the 'thinking' for them there would be no clickbait or selling of negativity because it wouldn't work.

It's very popular to hate me and Active Sky, and by extension, those who support me, our development team or the product.  I've mentioned (harped on) this before but that's also generated criticism so

  • ok, I am going to go through and delete links to one of the videos posted, I suspect you can guess which one. Opinions on a product are individual but we will not allow any direct developer bashing. T

I just watched that.  I was pretty surprised that his main critique of AS wx depictions was that the clouds were too flat, and lacked vertical development compared to MSFS.   This surprised me be

I'm remaking the video with 8883, weather has not improved.

Why is the idea that there are no clouds about 12k is a problem so radical. I fly tube liners, the part you guys care about is only a few minutes for me. if Damian and HiFi could incorporate SIGMET-G Cloud data then I'd be a happy camper but as it stands the upper atmosphere is being depicted incorrectly.

In my video,  I make sure all my time stamps are all fully visible and I show all METARS currently for that airfield and that they match between Windy AWC and ActiveSky.

I am correct.  I wanted this to be a good addon, I was really excited about upper level clouds at 35,000 feet and bouncing around through them but I have not found one instance where that weather is depicted.

Also, those thunderstorms had tops around 30-40k feet they should have had anvil heads, the satellite showed them and MSFS depicted.

I haven't seen a lightning- T Storms in MSFS 2020 in a year and a half, and over 1,000 flights with default weather, so I think you are just making up stuff.. The Picture I posted above was shot at well over 20,000 with Active Sky.. Looks like clouds to me.

Finally succumbed and purchased ASFS.
Initial thoughts are that it's promising, even with its limitations outwith HiFi's control.

Also you people who think I have an agenda because I'm monetized, don't understand you tube.  This channel will never make a cent.

I'm not sure the others are the ones who don't understand YouTube, if you think this.  A question: if you're certain your channel will never make a cent, why is it monetized?

Yesterday on my flight from Amsterdam to Trabzon I saw lighting too.

On a regular base I see lightning ( southern/eastern Europe )

Regarding clouds (no lighting )

Just landed at SBPA and was disappointed that ASFS didn't accurately show moderate rain over the airport. Instead, it showed a spot of clear sky right over it with rain clouds all around. MSFS live weather accurately showed moderate rain and overcast weather over the entire airport area. The only good thing for ASFS is that at least it showed the high incidence of lightning from storm clouds around the airport, something that MSFS live weather didn't show.

I used to fly in South Florida. Sometimes I would see rain on one side of a highway, and on the other side of the same highway it would be sunny. Two airports about  7 miles apart, one would be IFR, the other VFR.. These snapshots prove nothing. It is which weather looks more realistic, and AS is much closer to realistic  than MSFS Default, when I conduct  a flight .

Those screenshots prove how it is You simply won’t accept it.

So be happy with your Preset weather while others are happy with Local weather … Presets simply cannot show different weather around you.

You can however use Passive mode in AS : MSFS Live weather + AS extras

Btw : I use ASP3D to show weather on the ND and that is always spot on 😎

I see them regularly in central Africa, SE Asia, Australia…. exactly where you’d expect to find them.

I might be missing it, but where in this post does it indicate it should be raining on the field right now?  You've posted a TAF,  a forecast, that indicates there will be temporary periods of thunderstorms from 18z - 22z, but where's the observation that says it's currently raining?

FOLLOW UP: I looked up the METARs in question.  The hour previous Metar showed the conditions you're seeing w active sky - towering cu around the airport.  At 18z, a METAR containing light thunderstorms and rain came out, but you took your screenshot of Airnav at 1816, I assume after you landed and arrived at the gate.  That means you were on your approach right around the time the weather changed.

So I see a couple possibilities: One, you've got your weather transition interval set to a fairly long time in Active Sky, and the transition to rain just hasn't occurred yet; or 2. You've got that setting selected for no wx transitions on approach, and Active Sky would have caught up to the current conditions faster if you'd permitted it to.

Either way, the presence of lightning around the airport indicates that Active Sky knows the thunderstorms are out there, and they're on their way.

I haven't even gotten to try the program yet.  Who knows, I may very well prefer default wx.  But I see a lot of posts from folks who don't seem to understand how the program really works... I've gleaned this much just from following the threads.

Bizarre answer. You could simply say, 'I don't know why you're getting inaccurate weather with ASFS. With me, the weather has been very accurate.' Instead, you go straight to discrediting a direct comparison with real-time weather as if that proves nothing.

You may be getting perfect, accurate weather with ASFS where you usually fly. That's good. But there are people here who fly in other parts of the world, people who fly jets at FL410 who are having a different perception of ASFS's accuracy versus real-world weather.

I believe  the worst thing you can do for yourself is hide in a bubble and avoid/discredit absolutely anything that makes you lose your perception that ASFS is simply perfect, accurate and without issues.

I was watching the airport live stream during the flight. I precisely chose to do a flight to this airport because of bad weather forecast.

It had been raining at the airport for at least an hour before I landed. I basically landed at the exact moment the rain was the heaviest yet. However, on ASFS it showed some storm clouds around the airport, mostly to the south, but none over the airport. The live stream showed the weather completely overcast, without a single patch of clear sky.

No, it hadn't.  Read the follow up I just added to my post: the observation changed at 18z.  You took your at-the-gate shots at 1816, meaning you were on your approach around the time the wx changed.  The previous observation showed what AS is showing you: towering cu.
