February 3, 20251 yr Well, I hadn't reinstalled ASFS since I was forced to reinstall FS 2024 a few weeks ago due to some strange effects after trying to move the Community folder from it's default, but last night I pushed the latest version and tested it comparing the various alternatives: - Full (Preset-based) Mode; - Passive Mode; - ASFS OFF, only default weather In all of the three instances, RealTurb v2 was also in use. My preferred even with the few effects caused by updates is the Full Mode. ASFS really makes a whole lot of a positive difference in the way it renders the various cloud types, within the limitations imposed by the FS 2024 SDK (or rather it's absence in terms of weather injection). With ASFS in use in any of it's depiction modes there's a substantial difference in the wind variability and the turbulence effects that are much better modulated by ASFS, creating weather effects that are much more plausible than default MSFS weather. So, regarding @Aglos77's questions, I 100% recommend investing in ASFS. February 3, 20251 yr Ok I thank you very much, the sad thing is that they promised improvements in the weather years ago, for SU12 if I remember correctly and it has been a disappointment to see what we are practically like in 2020, I at least have not noticed great improvements, if they have different objectives to these and their priorities have changed could open the api to third parties at once.... I will buy realturb and in the future I will buy activate Sky too.. now that Leonardo is in 2024.... Anyone interested in them improving this should vote here..... https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/please-improve-cloud-turbulence-icing-and-weather-in-general/671023/11 Edited February 3, 20251 yr by Aglos77
August 6, 2025Aug 6 I have a question regarding AS in MSFS. Does it replace or overwrite any textures or effects from MSFS? I would prefer not, so i.e. when not using AS I still have the MSFS stock files.. Kind Regards Patrick
August 6, 2025Aug 6 I guess AS does not overwrite anything. You may always go back to MSFS stock weather by switching to Live Weather in the MSFS menu bar. It will disable Active Sky. August 6, 2025Aug 6 Currently using AS and it's a delight with low fog hugging the valleys with hill tops peaking through with a higher layer above, reverted to Passive mode as just curious and it's a hideous mess of puffy white nonsense that Asobo screwed us over with years ago, thank god for AS! And HiFi's AS and REX's Atmos work very well together in 2020. The release of REX Atmos for 2024 is stated by REX to be impending. I am eagerly anticipating that combination in 2024 when that day arrives. I also like very much how AS embraces and works with Navigraph's Simbrief. August 12, 2025Aug 12 Doing a flight in MSFS 2020 in the ole Citation X from Flight FX and was just thinking about how good ActiveSky is looking along with all the other perks. And thought Dammmn I Love ActiveSky. Happy Landings
August 15, 2025Aug 15 I think AS is a great add-on. It gives very accurate and realistic weather, but you need to be careful when changing the settings — the wrong ones can mess up your flight. As far as I know, it doesn’t have its own custom textures or visual effects.

To be perfectly honest I got it some time ago, buying into the hype of it being some "game changing" addon. I didn't see any noticeable difference using the presets that are in a consensus for being most realistic. There is some softening of the clouds to make them look less cartoonishly artificial but practically AS can do that too. Other than that a managed to see little to no difference. Maybe its me doing something wrong, or maybe the king is really naked?
