Really no idea what went into FSDG. They are long established scenery devs and while not the best they haven't shown any "shadiness" in all those years.

It was probably "one of those days" where crazy ideas actually make it into actions 🌨️

I can absolutely tell you, if a developer included that garbage in something I downloaded and I saw it during a flight, they would go on my permanent blacklist.

Asobo does advertise marketplace scenery on the world map. If you click on an airport that has scenery it will show a marketplace button on the same menu that also allows you to select the airport as departure/arrival

But it's nothing as silly as what FSDG is doing here.

Yeah there's a difference between having ads before the flight and *within* the flight.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I honestly can't see any problems with adds, provided they don't hide my view like sometimes happens at some forums and is quite irritating...

Actually if they're contextual then I even will like to see those adds pointing me to Marketplace or other offers!

If this can keep MS management in agreement with the continuity of MSFS and bring income to the project, let them come.

It's a "Flight Sim" not an "Ad Sim"...

No Thanks, didn't purchase to have developers pushing products, that's what product websites are for. (The Marketplace)

Microsoft Flight Simulator has been offered in various forms for 40 years. This version for the last 4 years. It has never had this type of intrusion into the simulator. All developers want to monetise thier efforts, that much is understandable. If the opportunity presents itself, they will take advantage of it. Thin end of the wedge and all that. Do not allow what other simulators do or 'sign of times' or any other excuse for this type of behaviour to flavour tacit acceptance of this practice. Otherwise it will become acceptable practice.   Do not normalise this practice.  This is an add free environment until it isn't.

Terry.

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower!

This form of advertising is inappropriate and not acceptable. I don't mind them advertising on a wall or sign (where adverts typically can be observed) Within the airport or airside signage but the examples shown above is way over the top and should be strongly discouraged.

On the other hand .. this is freeware ? If this is freeware all bets are off. Just file it into your memory bank as junk and move on. Some will find it acceptable and some will not but if its freeware its the devs choice as it is your choice not to download.

Yes Dune and Top Gun are not so much advertising as collaborative entertainment efforts and contribute meaningfully to our varied flight sim experiences and preferences. But this other stuff is simply an unwanted intrusion. Yes its freeware so presumably they can do what they want and we just don't buy it and hope it all goes away. Unfortunately, we cant rely on people to not buy their product. We are very much a consumer society and some people are quite ok with adverts. They want to remain informed of what is available. We already know people buy payware liveries (previously unheard of). They are here to stay. So, it's only a matter of time before payware developers will take advantage of this 'ínnovative' marketing approach too.

But no worries, if you want the advert free version you can. You will just have to pay for the unlock!

To mention again, how in hells sake to get rid of this Dune screen. I want a an A310 loading screen or a DC-3. All fine by me, but to what unreasonable sci fi standard are they still pushing on this Dune sand screen on startup? Relly getting on edge by this... evenmore so because I thought Su15 would manifest a new fresh one!!

Regarding the ads, if this vermin would push through inside the sim, X-plane would conquer 100% marketshare on its own hands down!!

I don't get you guys? Don't you like when those beautiful galls come sell their merchandising during your RL airline flights?

Or just imagine overflying a town or being on finals and enabling points of interest with the hotels/residences/restaurants with the best prices for the epoch IRL, or the location of supermarkets with ongoing promotional sales?

Heck! This is a Great idea!!! I haven't logged in into the MSFS forum for quite a while but you just gave me some idea!!!!
