May 28, 20242 yr some people says that this promotion adds comes from the free FSDG Haa Alifu Atoll scenery. Some people will argue that this is a free add-on after all and nothing is really free but I find odd to release a free product just to include some kind of unpleasant "Easter egss" that you discover when you land to another airport and kill your immersion. That was a really weird idea from FSDG. They surely have nice products and don't really need those kind of dirty tricks. Not sure it will help them with the bad buzz.
May 28, 20242 yr Reading the thread it seems I got the wrong end of the stick.. I'd assumed it was just a loading screen, I take it from comments that it isn't? Loading screen I could live with, anything in-sim seems way out of line. That said if I was a scenery developer I might be tempted to hide a billboard somewhere in the airport... somewhere people would only see if they were using the dronecam though... May 28, 20242 yr The OP on the other forum thread has indeed misunderstood the origin of that ad, which came from one of the addons he installed.. But it's always easier to say that the great Satan MS/Asobo is forcing us to see giant ads in the sky and sell them our first daughter. Now more seriously, there's plenty of space for "legit" advertising in the sim and I'm surprised that MS/Asobo didn't take the opportunity to do it right. The plane with banner poster earlier in this thread would be a valid idea actually, and an editor could actually pay MS/Asobo for placing their ad on that banner. Same would go for the various advertisement panels similar to real life. Think about the road side panels in the cities, or in the airport. Also ads on the passenger-conveying buses or on the jetways in the airports. There are many places which are actually advertisement in real life, and could be reused as advertisement in the sim, via a financial retribution from editors to MS/Asosbo. FSDG could pay a few dollars to have their ad shown on the side of the buses or jetways in sim in this or that airport for example. That would be transparent for us, not invasive, and it would actually bring additional money to MS. Best of both worlds, actually.

The virtual world is the only place we have CONTROL over our surroundings (in theory). Pretty much the raison d'etre of addons is to tailor that experience for each of us. Product placement disgusts me, personally, in movies /games /sims UNLESS it's real life company buildings /airline terminals/liveries of course. I'll stop before this becomes a rant lol. Saying it is freeware is not a valid argument imo. A virus is freeware too btw 😑 Russell Gough SE London
May 28, 20242 yr The day I see a MuckDonalds product placement inside an add-on airport terminal is the day I go back to P3D. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org

Where exactly do you not try to mirror the reality here ? 🙂 1 hour ago, sloppysmusic said: . The virtual world is the only place we have CONTROL over our surroundings (in theory). If the product placement is made in the same places as it's done in real life (roadside/buildings sign panels, buses, jetways, etc...) then it won't disturb me more than in reality. If anything, having these places without ads actually make them look less realistic 😄

To create MY constant preferred 'reality' not the real world ever changing one one pushed upon me by marketing executives. In my case the addons are either natural world (physics/weather) or non-commercial historical (planes no longer seen in the skies or rarely). Any livery installed is for regional immersion or (more often) as I LIKE the design. 7 minutes ago, Daube said: If the product placement is made in the same places as it's done in real life (roadside/buildings sign panels, buses, jetways, etc...) then it won't disturb me more than in reality. AIG could get rich by letting airlines pay for advertising on AI aircraft. On the other hand it is much more likely that they will sue them for using their liveries without their consent. May 28, 20242 yr It takes a long time and quite some effort to build up a good reputation within a customer base but it takes just a single wrong decision to looes all of this within a second. Removed all FSDG sceneries from my wishlist and highlighted FSDG red in my excel, where I keep track of all interesting addons that get released for MSFS. I simply do not want this to become standard in MSFS.
May 28, 20242 yr People still haven´t found out that clever product placement is so much better and cooler than boring adds the whole world hates, blocks, or outright ignores 😉 Edited May 28, 20242 yr by JetCat

All fine by me, but to what unreasonable sci fi standard are they still pushing on this Dune sand screen on startup? Relly getting on edge by this... evenmore so because I thought Su15 would manifest a new fresh one!! Regarding the ads, if this vermin would push through inside the sim, X-plane would conquer 100% marketshare on its own hands down!! Just go make a coffee or something while the sim loads. No one is forcing you to look at it. I minimize the sim and browse the web or watching videos while waiting. I know when it has finished loading because the music changes. May 29, 20242 yr Holy hell! It can always get worse apparently. I’m never ever buying a FSDG scenery again (had one in P3D). That is just disgusting. Edited May 29, 20242 yr by UAL4life
