Every new version of MSFS since inception seems to stress the limits of systems in use, ruiring systems upgrades to find satisfactory performence. That in-and-of-itself has prolonged the life of the previous of the MS sim, and in cases, MS sims (plural).  So I believe 2020 will have plenty of life, especially given today's prevailing GPU prices.

AFAIK 2024 is going to be on the same generation of Xboxes that 2020 is on, so I can't see the PC requirements changing that much, unless they do a bunch of PC only graphical features.

They said in interview that this would be the last update for the year, and the next update for 2020 will be in 2025

I hope you are correct.  Wonder if there are any impending Xbox hardware releases coming.

I suspect that as soon as MSFS 2024 hits the stores, MSFS 2020 is gonna be tiny receding speck in the back mirror.

I'll buy MSFS 2024 on release date, and will never use MSFS 2020 again.

Yep, typical lifecycle of every sim since always. There's always this tiny pocket of defiant users, but majority will buy, install and never look back.

As long as i have my addons to fly in the current sim, i see no reason to go "2024". They will at some point try to force people into 2024 as they did with Windows, but until then... So i might be a bit concerned devs might stop developing stuff which will work in the current iteration.

This sentence is familier, I've seen it before every iteration of Microsoft Flight Simmulator for the last forty years.

And not only defiant but also extremely vocal at times. They need to let the world know that <new product> is NOT for them, it simply does not fulfill their needs, it's doing X, Y and Z wrong, they are the real simmers, all the <new product> owners just care about visuals, scoff, spit!

Planning buying MSFS 2024 on release, but i am also keeping 2020 active, just in case there are any sim halting issues with 2024 in the first few months

Indeed. And i am not one of those who "resist", but things are so good nowadays that i will only move when i am probably "forced to" unlike i did with FS9 => FSX where it was actualyl a relief seeing such a major upgrade in graphics and therefore sim usability / much better experience.

If something really nice comes up for the 2024 version and it doesn't support the current version, that will almost surely make me buy it.

1. Buy on day 1 and keep both sims

2. Check if addons are working and perform some flights

3. Eventually forget MSFS until you decide to uninstall it to free up space for more addons

I don't see a reason to delay step 1, unless you are really tight on money and want to wait for a sale.
