Sim Hangs at Checking for Updates

Featured Replies

I've had this in the past year but in the past week this happens daily and usually a reboot is what cures it.  But now I've done a reboot and it's hanging at checking for updates again.

Anyone have solutions that have worked in the past?

edit:  Tried safe mode (within the sim) and even that isnt working gah!

  • Had this a little while ago. After shutting down via task manager and restarting it started. Seems server sided issue.

  • Had the Checking for Updates problem yesterday. Did something else. Working fine today. I don't use the Map Enhancement thingy, so I'm assuming that this was some sort of server-side problem.

Happened to me a few times recently and have to restart that has cleared it up so far.

We had a power outage today, and after turning the computer back on, I got the "Checking for updates" problem.

What fixed it for me was Windows > Settings > Date & Time > "Sync now."

I tried that and it worked... once; it appears it may only work temporarily.  It almost seems like anytime something changes in the MSFS folder structure, it gets stuck checking for updates all over again.

Same problem here but Sync Now didn't fix it.  I'm having a raft of problems now with everything:  checking updates, GSX issues, Self Loading Cargo issues, PMDG 738 not powering up w/ the 90 degree turned yoke, etc.  All in all spent 85% of the last 20 hours in fix it mode.   And all of this coincidental with SU15 😕

SU15...nope only started today. Likely server related.

After flying for a couple hours, I restarted as I wanted to load different config. from ADL. Hung on "checking for updates". The time sync worked once, another time nothing worked except logging out and back into to the XBox acct. It had to be updated. Afterwards seemed to work ok.

Have you by any chance recently installed the Map enhancement for Bing maps?

I sure have recently installed the Map enhancement and taking like 10 minutes now to get past update screen. And it even happens when I don't even use the Map Enhancement tool now.  I know it's got something to do with the Map Enhancement tool cause it wasn't doing any of this until installing the map tool.

woops sorry for stepping on Ryan's post here.

Been driving me nuts though 🤕

I even deleted that host file in the driver\etc folder and still slower than molasses now.

I had this once and I recently had the map enhancement mod installed. When it was having at checking for updates, I noticed there was a prompt for an update for the enhancement mod. Task manager quit MSFS, did the enhancement mod update, stopped and started it then started MSFS again and it worked fine. May have been a coincidence but the timing was very suspicious. Only had it happen that one time, the enhancement mod has been rock solid otherwise.
