MS Servers are down

Featured Replies

Just spent the last 2 hours of my life trying to fix a problem I didn't have.

Hopefully up and running again in about half an hour (but as this is MS we are talking about, don't hold your breath).

They really know how to make their customers mad, don't they!

  • This is about the only reason I would pick up Xplane--to lose this critical dependency.   OTOH our entire gig is a digital house of cards anyway w/ Russian (and I'm sure American/Chinese too) satellit

  • Also tried various things to fix this before Googling and realizing it's a global issue... started a flight anyway but, wow, does MSFS look ugly without an internet connection...

  • Exactly. Even the Map Enhancer does not work.    And there is also something not quite right with AVSIM's servers. It takes forever when I hit the reply button for the message to show up

LOL, I've spent the last hour trying to delete Bitdefender from an old download thinking that was the problem. I had a nice flight from Cancun to JFK lined up an all. Murphys Law given the conversation all evening!

It sure does.  Especially as I've recently started using the map enhancement tool again with latest Bing maps and thought it was that causing the problem, then renamed my community folder and spent more time trying to fix the host file, none of which were defective at all.

Agreed.  Funny thing, after reading this thread and seeing the world I was flying over I checked my data connection assuming it would report off, but it reports on.

Go Figure!

This is about the only reason I would pick up Xplane--to lose this critical dependency.   OTOH our entire gig is a digital house of cards anyway w/ Russian (and I'm sure American/Chinese too) satellite hunter devices.  And how about those subsurface ocean cables connecting the continents.  We live in an era in which a very few nasty or stupid people can do unimaginably heinous damage to millions in the relative blink of an eye.

It's so hard for me to resist that temptation--to fix sudden onset issues by troubleshooting the local machine, when the better option might be just to hang in there for 24-48 hours to see if it all gets better on its own, and that IME is typically the case.

Bob I would be willing to bet that map enhancement problem you thought you were having was probably the MS servers acting up.  Just figured I would hop on the train here and throw that idea your way 😉

                 Happy Landings

This happened over almost a 2 week period, and only when I had Map enhancement installed.

no need to pick up x-plane for that. MSFS scenery without internet connection did look very much like x-plane with internet connection. all of a sudden - in the middle of my flight over Orcas Island KORS, MSFS bing servers suddenly came back online again. it felt new born - like going from a black/white movie to IMAX full color.
