This is only of academic interest to me but surely if MSFS2024 becomes more server heavy / client light they would need to beef up their end considerably. But by how much if they don’t know how many people will transition to the new version.

In theory it helps those with limited storage space but only if the servers can remain stable and continuously available.

  • Absolutely incredible stuff coming. If someone isn't impressed by this then I don't know what to say

  • Well, I for one am positive after watching that, even though I likely won't be a day one buyer (but I reserve the right to change my mind!). I didn't expect to watch it all, especially as I wasn't wat

Oh we wouldn't dare think you might be interested in jumping to 2024! It goes without saying! lol

All jokes aside, Jorg did mention that they added more data centers in anticipation of 2024's release during his address at FSE. Hopefully they will be able to adjust as needed when they do their stress tests before launch. It is a legitimate concern.

I did wonder when it might be mentioned me not being a devotee of the sim. 😁 It’s the lack of control I struggle with.

I hope for all your sakes it isn’t a frustrating experience. It is a leap into the dark by Microsoft.

And we are all glad for that. Otherwise we would still be stuck with the FS9 way of doing things.

Given that Microsoft owns and runs Azure, one of the largest cloud infrastructures in the world (second only to AWS I believe) this is not a leap into the dark in that sense. They are also well experienced in various other cloud services from Bing to XCloud to various others. So it's more a matter of allocating the right amount of their cloud resources to handle the load of MSFS 2024, which I'm sure they will monitor and adjust as needed (also, any load demands from MSFS are a drop in the bucket compared to loads demanded by their corporate software applications and clients).

That said, as with any software that relies on a server-side, outages and hiccups can occur.. but the benefits of this new way of using technology stacks far outweigh any connection/load issues IMO.

Why do I always feel you’re having a dig at me? Do you find it difficult to accept some of us have different priorities?

And for info, I stopped using the 32-bit FS9 around 19 years ago just as many others including yourself probably did. Things have moved on significantly since then in case you weren’t aware.

Regarding the money they are making right now with the integration of AI-Services into Azure I would say that the Flightsim community is their lowest priority.

I'd say it's no more lack of control than a platform where the public support is almost dead, addons becoming incompatible left and right, major developers pulling the plug and hundreds if not thousands of dollars of your money is getting flushed down the toilet when you're left with zero updates, support or recourse and in some cases, an inability to even update the core simulator because that would just compound your problem further.

There obviously are higher priorities in the whole MS portfolio, but MSFS is hardly the "lowest" priority I'd say.. given that they are investing so much into MSFS 2024 vs 2020: i.e. doubling the core team size, the numerous partnerships with 3rd parties, contracting out even more to 3rd party devs, etc etc

Strange then how everything still works just fine. Let’s not start this sim war again.

I’m not criticizing you. I just find it interesting that you always make a point of saying you haven’t purchased MSFS, don’t plan to, or would only use it for VFR and sightseeing. You’ve made that clear over the years, so perhaps there’s no need to repeat it.

My reference to FS9 highlights what we've avoided with the Microsoft-Asobo synergy. Instead of lethargic side-steps, we now have a modern, forward-thinking platform that has increased value and enjoyment for millions of simmers, including casual players, hardcore enthusiasts, and both IFR and VFR fans.

I have no issue if some people are not ready or willing to switch or add another sim to their collection. However, I am concerned when those individuals criticize the very reasons why MSFS has been an undisputed success. I want more innovation, not less. Otherwise, I’d purchase P3D V6.

You're the one always starting this, dropping pokes and insinuations and then using your mod position to quickly shut it down to not start a 'sim war'. If you we can't have an adult conversation, don't open that can of worms.

You’re imagining things. Read my post from four hours ago…

https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/645790-microsoft-flight-simulator-2024-development-update-live/?do=findComment&comment=5121563

Now tell me what is “dropping pokes or insinuations” in that post? I simply wished users would enjoy a reliable service.

Do you have the same animosity towards those who still prefer XP or is this just a personal dig at me because i prefer the sim of my choice. And I don’t shut down topics others have started unless people are being disrespectful or it’s gone off topic.

I won’t be responding to any more posts in this topic.

I don’t see the harm in confirming I haven’t bought it. It’s not as though I’m saying it every week.
