The TFDi MD-11 is now released

Featured Replies

Well I didn't owned the PMDG version of MD11 so I can't compare it to that plane however comparing it to other models from PMDG - TFDi's version is a step down from PMDG in terms of systems and simulation. However it is still fully immersive airliner to operate. There are few bugs here and there but support from developers is there and they are already working on refining those bugs and errors.

I also own their 717 on P3D so as result for me change was not that significant as I was familiar with flight deck layout and automation modes. However MD11 is still tricky to operate, especially flaps 35 landings - one really needs to do some practice manual landings in order to get hang of it's handling characteristics, It certainly took me by surprise on my first landing.

However the nose wheel steering is still messed up for me. It simply won’t do a 90 degree turn at any speed and if you slow down too much it just stops. Pity because the 777 taxis really well….

The nose wheel cant turn 90 degrees in it. 70 degrees max with the tiller. Working as intended.

First flight with this today... it's pretty good! WAD

Textures are a bit overweathered in the VC, and I didn't really care for the Navigraph integration, but otherwise, so far, very well done. The FMS even took some entries I didn't expect it to know what to do with.

I would like to see enroute wind import at some point, I didn't see that in any of the import options.

Edit: never mind - sim crashed after performance took a dive during cruise. Couldn't reload from a save point - not much point in creating a long haul that can't do this. Maybe I'll check back after a couple patches... back to the hangar.

Hi:  I have done countless long hauls on the airplane now...even with the recent patch I've done 2.  I don't think it's the airplane.

Are you using the auto LOD mod? I had this issue and it was caused by the mod. You have to have it set on one of the non fps targeting modes. Ie TLOD changes with altitude and not fps.

Thank you for the suggestion, giving it a try, however 2/3 loads this morning, the plane's panel was dead lol

😶

Edit again: appears to be working a bit better with the AutoFPS change. Thanks!

Well i thought that was the solution but I've subsequently found that I also have to turn down my pre caching  to medium. So who knows? Somethings not right with this plane. Maybe the latest NVidia drivers will sort it.

Yeah... again, better with the AutoFPS change, but something just isn't quite right.

I'm pretty suspicious that it's leaking somewhere, or possibly just some things still very unoptimized. For example, on this flight, every time I look at the pedestal it's a stutter fest, unless I cycle photogrammetry to force the sim to "reload." Behavior appears to have stopped once I turned off the pedestal lights...

WASM crash today after 6 hours of flying... plane fell out of the sky.

It lacks any sort of restore feature.

The EET calcs are totally inaccurate, fuel isn't accurate either.

Simple things like entering a freq in the MCDU will brick the plane's ability to follow a VOR radial or a LOC.

AP issues abound in terms of LOC/GS cap, it does not like coupling from LNAV.

Drag coefficients are way too high - take off with Flaps 25 and let me know if you ever make it to FR+10.

No wind import, poor EFB.

Step climbs and a lot of the perf stuff in the MCDU: broken/not real

I do not recommend purchasing this plane at the moment.

Could you post those on their discord?  Or if not, do you mind if I copy and paste?

You can go right ahead, I can't join their Discord. A lot of these are known bugs apparently, according to my friend who bought the CE.

So far - 5 flights, only 3 completed, and 2 had major issues. So an error free success rate of 20%! Killing it.

I'm not going to waste any more of my time on this $80 product I bought until I'm fairly certain it won't waste 6 hours of my time to end in an unrecoverable WASM crash. Not really sure how some of these bugs made it into a product that shipped (but then again - I bought the 717 on day one, and if you had the temerity to engage the reversers, it would immediately slingshot backwards and start flying away at 60+ knots, so I can't say I'm surprised).

I suspect the WASM crash was related to entering a step climb (system isn't working properly yet - known bug - only allowing 1 SC at a time). I had changed my cruise altitude during the climb out and deleted a step, added a new one, and the WASM crash happened right around there. Can't really say - came back to see the airplane falling out of the sky, no time to recreate or test that one again for at least a few weeks.

Hi, finished several long haul and short leg without crashing, MCDU entries working well, LOC/GS captured accurate exept one time I was approaching LOC with wrong angle, step climb also working here. What do you mean with EET and what do you think is poor in regard to the EFB? And for the fuel - check the fuel system transfer behaviour during long haul route and compare with the books, it seem to be modelled accurate. Best regards

1. The fuel predictions are just basically incorrect, not the fuel system.

2. Step climb logic only works for the first S/C and I'm crediting it with the WASM crash. Either way - doesn't matter, a WASM crash on a 6 hour flight is pretty brutal, and I don't think any long haul aircraft should be shipped without some sort of panel restore functionality. In pretty much any other airplane, I'd relaunch the sim and maybe lose 20 minutes, in this case I lost 6 hours for my trouble.

3. Three flights in a row - the aircraft failed to track LOC from NAV, despite flying riiiight down the localizer course. From Navigraph Charts I was probably 0.2nm deflected to the left... it never joined. When I tried to manually tune the ILS freq (because it wasn't picking it up going into LAX), it blew through the localizer to the right and continued turning, and then after reintercepting it blew through to the left while again continuing to turn. Manually tuning an ILS breaks the plane's ability to fly an ILS.

4. The EFB's Navigraph integration is meh, for whatever reason I keep having doors randomly open but I'll take the credit that the doors page was open and I might've clicked in that general direction, but it's not great. Setting payload generates an error 100% of the time for me unless I go to the weights page first.

5. I will give them credit for this - some arcane MCDU entries actually do work.

Also drag coefficients seem to be off by quite a bit - setting Flaps 25.0 in Dial-a-Flap for T/O with high gross weights (freighter) results in the airplane's near inability to accelerate or climb to acceleration altitude. I know at higher gross weights it can be a pig but it seems a little excessive.

I guess it's just like the 717 - horribly bugged in the beginning with loads of potential though. I'll wait and see if the MD11 ends up being as good as the 717. I just have no time for buggy aircraft when I can fly a smooth 777 or Fenix.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
