I asked on Aerosoft why the PMDG 747 and 777 were still available when PMDG had removed them from its own website. Who should answer but Mathijs who said they’d forgotten about Aerosoft.

He recommended I buy the 777 without delay. It appears these aircraft could disappear imminently. So I bit the bullet and bought the 777 and its expansion pack. I would urge any of you considering them not to hang around.

Not installed yet. After it is I have to program my GoFlight switches so they can replicate how I have the 737 setup. A few days away.

@Ronda_sim, thanks. I have been watching a decent tutorial on YT and it appears quite similar to the 737 but obviously with several differences.

Main reason I hadn't pulled the trigger on the 777 yet is the 747-400 is what I use for most of my long-haul flying.

Granted, it is being largely phased-out in passenger services, but there is still a good cargo-network out there to take advantage of. And I'm not that concerned about flying 'outdated' ops so I'll just use a site like https://departedflights.com and fly 1996 Pax Ops when I feel like it.

It might still be my favourite aircraft to fly in P3D, it's definitely aged a little graphically now, but it runs superbly on my system (no PBR means minimal VRAM usage) and I've always found it superbly stable (beyond one CTD issue related to the FS2Crew RAAS demo which I solved by buying the full thing).

Martin, you are a man after my own heart.

My one and only 'plane. After a number of years, I still cannot land it perfectly every time. I just fly where I want and don't follow any set routes.

With FS2Crew, AS, AIG and Radar Contact, at this stage of my life, I don't need any more.

The 747 is being phased out. Here at Manchester, Virgin stopped flying them some time ago. There was much excitement amongst spotters when chartered 747s flew Man City, Man Utd and Liverpool squads over to the US. It appears to be disappearing from our skies.

So has Concorde of course but that’s an iconic aircraft which I love. I’m so-so with the 747.

I can understand that viewpoint, Ray.

And as another replied, the 747 is still going strong around the world. I see -400's and -8's fly in literally every day.

And don't forget, the very last 747 only just rolled off the assembly line last year.

It's probably going to be flying for the rest of my life!

The 747's are pretty much all cargo flights these days, but the nice thing about that is you can fly pretty much anywhere on the planet using IRL scheduled flights, etc.

Anyhow, best for you to get that which draws you to it - just putting in a good word for the QotS. 🤙

I’ve always been very selective with the aircraft I buy. I don’t have a hangar full of them. Current count is five. PC12, DA-62, XP Lear 25, PMDG737NGXu and Concorde.

I did the opposite - bought a bunch of them across most of the sims. Mainly because they're all interesting enough to have simply as digital museum pieces.

But like you, I really only fly a small handful of them, and each because it fills a particular "need".

One heartfelt recommendation I can make is that you choose one of the A2A Sims birds to add to your hangar.

If I could only keep a couple add-ons for the rest of my life, one or two of the A2A's would make the list.

they're by far the closest I've ever gotten to flying without paying for an IRL rental. 👍

I’ve looked at those before and nothing appealed.

I don't find the Piper Comanche appealing in the least, and I'd much rather fly something like the DA-62.

But their AccuSim technology makes the plane feel positively alive in a way I haven't experienced in any other addon for P3D. The immersion is so deep that it just doesn't matter that I don't care for the aircraft itself.

Yes, it's that good.

What about A2A's "Captain of the Ship 049 Constellation" - I have it for P3D and it is true classic airliner known for its era. A2A have done a great job with it.
