No doubt that thought and logic behind it came from certain member who joined the team from Aerosoft, who turned very anti P3D ever since MSFS came out.

Make no mistake; there’s only one guy at PMDG who makes these sort of calls and it’s not Mathijs.

Why? They produced the best 737 for P3D. I haven’t come across any serious failings and I’ve flown it for years.

It's interesting to note that the primary group upset by this decision are those who already own PMDG aircraft for P3D. How many people are still interested in purchasing add-ons for LM's platform? 3, 8, 25?

While no one here can confirm that, it is obvious that the interest in advanced P3D aircraft is no longer sufficient.

This conclusion is supported not only by PMDG's reluctance to cater to that audience but also by similar actions from companies like FSLabs and A2A. Apart from releases that have been long in development, the market outlook is clear.

Again, it's not why they've stopped selling, it's how they are (not) communicating.

But that's my point—why make a big fuss about it if almost everyone who wants to purchase these add-ons already has?

On the other hand, they should be indeed as clear as possible when deciding to end all support for P3D.

I only own the Queen of the Sky's II and the DC-6, the rest I never got around to buying.  I got interested in other aircraft and kept putting off buying the 737NGXu and 777.  If I would have known there was a time limit in which I could buy their add-ons, I would have bought them already.

I'm not the only one, if you look back in this thread, others have said they don't own all the PMDG products they wanted.

Since the announcement multiple people have asked for more clarity, but it seems PMDG isn't willing to provide. Even if those people aren't in the market for more PMDG P3D add-ons - and I'm not saying they aren't - PMDG's communication style is unsatisfactory edit: in this particular case.

Not through ORBX, dear, next time check sources, for a first time I hear ORBX offers PMDG planes.

PMDG’s claim that they would actually lose money by continuing to make their P3D aircraft available is nothing short of preposterous. If that was true then both SimMarket and ORBX would have removed theirs or face a severe drop in income.

Not only do I agree with you, I'd argue that the margin on P3D planes is far higher than MSFS (although the latter makes up for it in volume).

While revenues when a plane is first released are likely high and then asymptotically approach zero over time, the same is true about support costs. Lots of requests, bugs, patches/hotfixes, etc. The costs are much higher after release and track revenues to zero as the product becomes mature and all they are doing is collecting money and making a download available.

I agree that there's the distraction factor, but their gross margin on P3D products has to exceed 99%.

From the remarks on the PMDG forum their MSFS buyers have problems in buying the right model plane in the first place e.g. buying a 737 instead of a 777...

Ryzen 5800X clocked to 4.7 Ghz (SMT off), 32 GB ram, Samsung 1 x 1 TB NVMe 970, 2 x 1 TB SSD 850 Pro raided, Asus Tuf 3080Ti

P3D 4.5.14, Orbx Global, Vector and more, lotsa planes too.

Why are PMDG not communicating about the closure of their P3D shop?

Simply because they don't care, and they can afford not to care... They are commercially very successful with their MSFS products. This probably makes them very confident, possibly arrogant about not caring for P3D anymore. As some people said, it is the last nail in the P3D coffin and I suspect PMDG are probably happy about it.

I don't agree with that attitude, to say the least. As I said above, I find it arrogant and nasty. I guess what I think, or what some of you on this forum think, does not matter to them when there are hundreds of people who support them regardless.

That's who and what PMDG are, and nobody here will change that unfortunately. Asking for an explanation is futile...
