Featured Replies

Was this MD-11 made for P3D V6 (with the new features it supports) or is it a made for P3D V4.4+ and floating compatibility thru V5 and V6?

I blame the modern version of 'beta testers'. They all seem to be more concerned about rushing out their 'exclusive first look' YouTube videos on an unreleased product than doing any serious testing.

Hopefully they will make further improvements and implement more functions in the efb to at least match what PMDG providers.  Fingers crossed.

If TFDi can provide all of the functions to match their 717 systems, or similar (as in fully functional efb), I think their sales to the P3D community would definitely increase a lot! Just saying.

As you say, I would be keen to buy once these issues have been ironed out.  I have an 8GB card so am keeping a keen eye on the VRAM business, their responses to being able to simply import a .rte flight plan or some sort of import, and their performance calc in the EFB.  I don't think it's.a P3D limitation that it's not in there!  Others have perf calc.

In case they don't - TOPCAT has MD-11 data, and is still available to buy if you don't have it.  Obviously it's old, but t does get AIRAC updates and does what I says on the tin.  But TFDI do need to address this.

I'm not so bothered on the perf side of things as I still have PFPX/ Topcat, which while geared to the old PMDG MD11 still seems to work well enough. The lack of a route import on the FMC is a big minus to quality of life though, especially for a long-haul aircraft. Something like an ACARS system for loading the route like the Leonardo MD80 had would maybe be a neat solution without needing to do anything to the EFB.

Had another load into the sim yesterday, this time Heathrow which I have much experience with in the FSL Concorde. OOM in just a few minutes. The VRAM issues on v5 still seriously need addressing (I'm on 1024x1024 textures).

I'm tempted to try reinstalling V4 since that was much less VRAM-hungry if memory serves me right, but I am close to abandoning the P3D version and waiting until I migrate to the other sim before flying it.

Since they are not providing much in the way of documentation, I wonder how close their MD-11 systems are to the older PMDG MD-11. Reason I ask, somewhere, I have a  CD that I burned a copy of all of the PMDG MD-11 documents (FCOM, POH, QRH, etc).. Might be worth finding.

I would be curious if anyone has checked this out, yet?

My apologies for my late reply. My scenery settings are around medium or a notch to the right but what did some difference was to change textures to 1024 instead of 2048 in P3D settings, and 1024 in TFDI's RealLight.XML as suggested here. After further testing my vram is not as stable as I would like , flutuating from 5.2 to 6.4 depending on the camera position and weather.
With the useless navadata delivered it's not easy to plan a normal flight with sid's and stars but I've tried a short flight from EDDF to EGCC and I haven't run out of vram but near the end my game crashed because of the bad weather. I'm having stability problems with v5 in dense cloud coverage but that is another story.

Hi Glenn, that's a good resource to use in my view and I also dug this out to remind me of how to fly the MD-11 since I had purchased that aircraft for FSX many years ago.

Also I found this useful article which I think should broadly apply to flying the MD-11 for those that have been flying something else.

I haven't seen any mention on what the base sim TFDI used for P3D development was, but based on the product features, I havent spotted anything that is a V6-only feature, so suspect it was developed with the broader user base of v4 and v5 and assumed it will then also work in v6.

What I haven't heard is anyone that's flying the MD-11 with v6 as to whether there are differences in VC cockpit lighting seen. From what I have learned it requires tweaking of the aircraft .fx files for the VC to appear correctly in dawn and dusk conditions in v6.

Re the GSX profile, I made my own for P3D. The MSFS version of the GSX profile for the aircraft has quite a few door misalignments. PM me I and can share the GSX config file I made. Its for the MD-11F though!

Hi Folks,

Just a quick update.

I have been messing around with another update of the GSX aircraft profile that includes autodetection of the GSX doors (passenger & cargo) for the MD-11F model.

This is an initial test version ofr MD-11F pilots to try out. I do see some anomalies based on the LVAR variables that TFDi has made available to the community in which I need to follow up with them.

MD-11F aircraft profiles available:

Manual GSX door activation profile: Download the GSX profile from my Google Drive here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hQTITrV1Jhd_-F9j5qZdY__oHtmkP6Fk?usp=drive_link

New Door Autodetection-enabled GSX profile: Can be obtained from the FSDT forum: http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,31881.0.html. Read my observations in the forum.

Note: Silly me, I posted it in the MSFS sub-forum by mistake, but I have asked Virtuali to move it over to the P3D forum.🙄

If anyone is wanting to test this out new file out and confirm the observations I have been seeing, that would be really helpful. This is a first version and I know its not fully operational, but its a couple of steps ahead of the "manual" GSX profile I created.

Related topic: I did log a support ticket for the Bulk Cargo Door not working of the F variant. The door icon shows on the EFB, but I never saw any physical movement on the external model. TFDI confirmed that this is a non-functional door and will remove that door option from the EFB in a future P3D update.

Have fun!

Hi Folks,

FYI...

There is another TFDI update for the MD-11 planned for next week for both P3D and MSFS. This was announced this morning by the developer and is a follow on to v1.0.7 released on July 17.

Look out for this announcement in the Discord Dev Updates channel.

Yes there is. The paintkit (.rar) is a single package that enables liveries to be painted for both MSFs and P3D sims.

To access/download the paintkit, you need to be logged into your TFDI account and from there navigate to the TFDI Design MD-11 downloads area. Then click the paintkit link (this will download another link).

Clicking this 2nd link will download the .rar package.

The VRAM usage is still terrible. I'm really disappointed. They were better off releasing this as a beta or v0.9. MSFS got the 1.0.
