there are big differences between the two that don’t allow that.

More specifically, it is because the Xbox platform cannot handle those features. What is encouraging is that they were willing to get the A310 on par with the 300 if parity allowed it. Jorg has said the bar for default planes in 2024 is much higher so overall I think we are in for a treat.

This is a day one purchase for me. I’m not sure if it’s a day 1 100 percent switch from MSFS2020. That depends on how fast 3rd party addons are updated to work with it. I’ll likely run both sims for a while.

That's what I remember them saying, but krakin said they were doing that for the 310/300, so I got confused. LOL

There's a big difference between sharing features and sharing code. Code was what Tuskin originally asked about and that is what I addressed. The 310 and the 300 definitely share code because of the similarities in the two planes but that does not mean ALL code/features are going to be shared.

Ok, I get, but "coding" is how you implement "features". I don't really see the difference. If they share code, they are in the end sharing features.

@UrgentSiesta I have seen the same type of Erickson (formally Sikorsky) skycrane over the Ford assembly plant in Oakville a couple of times. Going to be very cool to execute missions with this huge beast in the sim!

I'm extremely curious about the A400M myself, but whether I use it or not will depend on the level of simulation they'll give it. If it's on par with the new A320, it'll be a keeper. If not, well, not. Unless someone mods it to improve it.

My military transport needs will likely be well served by Milviz's C-130, so the A400M will have to be good to earn itself time.

Agree.

If we take Jorg & Seb's words at face value (and generally it's apparent we can), the Default Addon fidelity level can only go up.

Now, that's a statement loaded with presumption, of course, because it's possible the "mission" focused addons will be overly simplified towards the specifically tasked activity...

Like you, I'm looking for fidelity on-par with the current crop of Defaults like the 310 and 320v2. That will suffice nicely as long as it really can convincingly perform Tactical Airlifter stuff like STOL, off-runway, slow flight, etc.

Ah, MilViz! My only problem with them is their pre-occupation with earning a living from the .Mil, .Gov, & .Com instead of us lowly consumers!

It means we get just the occasional dribs and drabs of greatness (of which their T-6A is a prime example - love it!).

OH YEAH - I LOVE the Sikorsky blade systems look & sound! I occasionally see Super Stallions flying about - such a distinctive racket they make 😁

And the Sky Crane is simply something else - truly looks like a monster dragonfly from some godzilla movie.

It's gonna be GREAT (and interesting that it's likely to be MilViz/BBS's first helo released for the game)!

Now, if only helicopter control hardware was actually a bit more affordable.

But who am I kidding, I don't have any more room for it. 🤔

Fishing from my industry experience, I would be honestly surprised if any flight simulator after FSX that isn't MSFS sold mich over 100,000 copies, if any even reached that number.

If your industry experience is specialist journalism I think you might be grossly underestimating the size of the market and the interest in flight sims of all kinds.

Guys like us who read articles and post on Web sites really are the tip of the iceberg. Whilst they might read articles or watch YouTube content, the vast majority of users simply never bother to interact on forums.

From what I've seen it's extremely rare for developers or content producers to publish sales figures or user numbers.

The figure of 400,000 units of the A10 shifted by DCS is eminently believable. It's been around for a long time now and was the first truly complex or 'study level' module produced for that sim.

The IL2 Sturmovik series of combat flight simulators has become a franchise these days but had it's first release back in 2001. UbiSoft were the western distributors. Back in 2011 the UbiSoft community manager revealed that Ubisoft had sold 1.4 million copies of IL2 in all it's various iterations, on disc. This figure did not take into account sales in eastern Europe and the Russian federation by 1C Games either.

It's successor; IL2 Cliffs of Dover was a disaster on wheels and a lesson on the dangers of feature creep and lax project management and even that managed to rack up a quarter of a million sales.

The present franchise, IL2 Great Battles series, is now reaching the end of development. Sales figures are unknown but it's always been a digital download in the west. When you download one of the games you are automatically registered on the forum. At present there are over 352,000 registered members. There are five standalone releases available to purchase for these users...

Again, these are just figures for the western market.

I mention these as combat flight sims are universally acknowledged as minor players when it comes to civilian flight sims. It would suggest that cumulative sales of the big boys over the years; P3D and XP, are substantially larger than a mere 100k copies.
