August 29, 20241 yr Been using Active Sky since it was released. Like the different varieties of clouds instead of cumulous only, lightning and thunder and realistic turbulence.
August 29, 20241 yr Impossible to fly without 30 hours of flight per week. I have never encountered such a diverse representation. The cloudy representation that everyone knows. Active Sky
August 29, 20241 yr Moderator Disclaimer: I used to beta test for Damian for about 15 years. I’m solely an IFR flyer in MSFS, and use it to practice real IFR planning, procedures and flows for my PPL/IR. I’m still comfortable to say that, if you want realism regarding winds aloft, cloud variety, TS etc., nothing beats Active Sky. My favorite feature is still historic weather 🥂! Their problem, and strange they couldn't even offer any details on what quirks they claim ASFS was causing them... or even care to contact the ASFS developer... Says a lot about SI to me... Tried during trial period, didn't like, opted for BATC and together with FSHUD which supports ASFS, they're my choices in as far as ATC goes. I sometimes use BATC, sometimes FSHUD... And always ASFS ... August 29, 20241 yr Just took off from KOMA in a blinding T Storm, with lightning, and wind shear warnings. Just as I cleared the clouds.
August 30, 20241 yr I use AS all the time, I think the clouds AS generate are more realistic. MS clouds are always Towering large clouds , they look good but still so unrealistic Jason Richards

That way you get the visual benefit of Live Weather up high (but with all the benefits the AS gives, e.g. turbulence) and the full features of AS Active mode at lower altitudes where global depiction isn't as visually obvious. Could you tell me how to switch to passive mode? I also purchsed AS, but did not like it. But I do like their turbulence. But I could not find the option to switch to passive mode... Asobo has full access and yet we still have very low resolution rendering. I put the question to Damian here and he essentially said performance is the limiter and made no mentioned of access as having anything to do with why they can't magically create "the full spectrum of cloud types...." No question IMM Xbox has had something to do with this as the performance basics between your/my PC and XBox is major. Higher-end GPUs like the RTX40-series should have more than enough headroom to render clouds in higher detail. But obviously Xbox series S don't. So that could be the limiting factor. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
August 30, 20241 yr "So that could be the limiting factor." You still ask yourself the question!? You can't even imagine the excitement I have for two versions of simulator or a subscription! to get rid of this xbox!

I do not think that will ever happen, what I am hoping for is that they build in more flexibility in the options, so that those with more powerful hardware can increase the settings far more than they can now for things like cloud depiction. Then those with a 700X3D and 4090 and take advantage of their hardware, as can someone with a much lower spec system. More options and more sliders! This was not done on 2020 maybe as it launched for PC only, but maybe with experience they will have given PC owners more flexibility in 2024. MSFS 2024. They’ve got settings for PC that don’t exist for Xbox. So I guess theoretically it should be possible to include settings for PC that allow higher cloud detail. Look, I’m not a fan of the way it is either. I think they should have separated Xbox and PC from the start. But I don’t think that’s likely to happen. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
