November 20, 20241 yr Thank you Bad_T. No problem to use quickly AL 2024 with MSFS 2024 (Store) and to test the addons. Edited November 20, 20241 yr by doudou Windows 11 | i7-14700KF | DDR5-64Go | RTX-4070 Super | 1440p 32" curved screen | G903

November 20, 20241 yr I downloaded that I thought was the new version from S.to, but there is no mention of 2024. How do I know I have the most recent version? Bob Zolto

Just as in 2020, find your usrcfg.opt file ( I'm not at my flight system right now) - the last line in the file is the location of the Community folder - just change it to your preferred location. I changed mine to F:\MSFS2024 which is my instalol location. RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160

November 20, 20241 yr Great @Bob_Z if you could figure it out, let me know if you have further questions. @Espana Pete thank you for the information, i will remove that text in the 2024 version if it doesn't make sense, and feel free to report errors/ideas, they are always welcome ---- so hmm, even if it should be offered during the install, it looks like we can change the community folder location easily so that's it's not in the c:\ drive but unfortunately it looks like other folders are still mandatory to the c:\ drive if i understood correctly. Like the 'streamedpackages' folder. On my c:\ drive i have already over 20GB of stuff related to v2024 after 30 minutes of play (when disk space is limited it's a lot), for 2020 after 4 years i have only 8GB .. so yeah it's a bit annoying (hopefully i'm wrong). I heard there was a way to download the streaming content (so we could maybe choose another drive and it's not downloaded everytime) but for now i havent find any option to do that, am i missing something ? omg .. out of topic but i have to let it out, i'm not that difficult but my biggest complain in msfs2020 was snow covering some regions for 5 straights months even if there is none in real life just because some mountain tops around have snow, first try in ms2024 and obviously there was snow everywhere in my region even if there is none in real life and there is no way to get rid of it unless deactivating live weather (which is a shame because LV looks very good), damned ... ok sorry 😁😁 now that i have the game i'll check for further eventual needed changes in Addons Linker and i'll release a new version very soon when ready. 🍻 Edited November 20, 20241 yr by Bad_T

Even if anybody installs it on c drive there is an option to move the whole installation to another drive after the event, I think I saw that on the MS Store or Xbox app. Even though I installed on f drive, the installation was going to default the rolling cache to c drive. There is also an option to move the rolling cache to a drive of your choice and to change the maximum size of it. I hope I understood your problem correctly and that this info might be of some help. November 20, 20241 yr Thank you for you input but i have the Steam version so it might be different, the sim main files have been succesfully installed into the drive of my choice (Steam lets you choose the folder), but then there are a lot of files in 'AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024' which i'm not sure if they can moved via a 'built-in' function (there are always possible tricks with 'symlinks' but well i wish it was possible to do it in a supported way). 🍻
November 21, 20241 yr For me it runs and starts without problems, but I can't see all the airports and airplanes I bought in MSFS 2024...The sim only started if I deactivated all my airplanes and airports in the new addons linker (link to MSFS 2024) beforehand! All settings can also be made without problems, I have the standard Steam version. Am I right that the purchased airports and airplanes will only be displayed in MSFS 2024 in a few weeks? Should I gradually link my purchased airplanes and airports to MSFS 2024, or all together? Another question; can you transfer your “description” entries from MSFS 2020 to the new MSFS 2024, if so how? Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
November 21, 20241 yr Hello Bad_T I have just downloaded your 2024 update and managed to get set up easily thank you. I made one stupid mistake, the opening screen wanted me to enter the location of my add ons which it showed correctly, but I stupidly then added each of my six sub folder too which I have since realised was not needed. What is the safest way to delete the displayed sub folders without deleting my downloads please? November 21, 20241 yr I had sert my 2020 version to dark theme, but for some reason I cannot find that option in the 2024 version? EDIT: so sorry, I just found the dark theme option. November 21, 20241 yr oops forgot to check this thread, sorry for late replies : @Chicho11 for the addons i don't really know, some might not work properly in MSFS2024 and so they will not show up or cause instabilities. You should pretty much check one by one to see if they work fine. Then, if you link them with AL and they appear correctly in your msfs2024 community folder they should show up if they are compatible. Not sure if i understand correctly your issue though, if not feel free to send me a private message with some screenshots. Yes you can copy configuration files if you use the same source folders from the 2020 version for example the descriptions are here C:\ProgramData\MSFS Addons Linker\Data\Addons_Descriptions.bin .. just copy (make sure to copy and not move or you'll loose it for v2020) that file in the 2024 folder C:\ProgramData\MSFS Addons Linker 2024\Data @Espana Pete you can just remove the folders from the AL options screen, it will not delete the files on the disk, it will just remove them from the internal list of folders to scan by AL. There is no risk to remove or add folders from the Options screens it will not touch any files on the disk. @Dane Watson Cool if it worked 🙂 Edited November 21, 20241 yr by Bad_T
November 29, 20241 yr hi, You say the following about the latest addon linker mod; you can use the same source folders for both versions if the addons are compatible between the two versions to avoid duplicate files. The problem is that the addons, e.g. “nzasimulations-airport-nzch-christchurch-v1-1-0”, have the same name in msfs 2020 AND msfs 2024! so you cannot use these two mods at the same time in the linked path to the (same) community folder. Because duplicate files with the same name but different effect) cannot be saved in windows... how can this problem be avoided? Should you perhaps place the new msfs 2024 mods with the same folder name (without addon linker linking) directly in the community folder of msfs 2024? then additionally activate the same named msfs 2020 mod in the addon linker mod so that both versions work? how can you solve the problem with the same mod name (duplicate) in the same source folders for both versions? .
