FS2024 is not ready ... and shouldn't be released

It must be so frustrating for the devs / Jorg to drop in on threads like this, having explicitly and repeatedly told us it’s an alpha for telemetry sourcing, to say on the intro page for the download that it’s an alpha with many things missing and literally state it’s ‘solely for the purpose of telemetry’, to go as far as putting a warning that it’s an alpha just for telemetry purposes in the sim that you have to esc out of before you can use it, to go to all these lengths and still have people saying ‘it’s not ready for release’.

It frustrates the pants of me, and I haven’t gone to any of that effort to tell anyone it’s just an alpha for telemetry.

But you can’t have it both ways. Either the alpha software being tested is not representative of the underlying code, or it is. If it isn’t then the value of the test is suspect. If it is, then Houston, we have a problem.

  • Sounds like you missed out on a fortune making money for the most popular sim ever made.     Questionable business decision.

  • With all due respect,   If the mentality of some strong voices in avsim had their views we would all still be on a broken P3d platform. It really does seem to be the place for the metaphor

Mods and Admins please lock these unnecessary threads. Please. People are actually acting like the next apocalypse is about to be happening.

Or you can just not read them.

The point of this test isn't for the actual simulator - it's to test the infrastructure that supports the software.  And while I'm sure it's "representative' of the underlying code, we have no idea how old that code even is.  And beyond THAT, the OPs post is completely devoid of actual content to even respond to, beyond "it's not ready". Okay...? What useful and detailed feedback that is, from someone not even in the alpha.

Threads like these are why developers don't like running alpha tests without NDAs: Because people treat and evaluate them like demos, rather than incomplete slices of the software meant for testing.

Here's what was written in the request for tech alpha testers recruitment:

Quote

In October we’re hosting a technical alpha to gather feedback on some of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024’s new services. Please note the focus of this technical alpha is validating new services in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and the scope of available content will be limited.

I don't know why people are struggling to understand what has been written. The point of the tech alpha is to test 'new services' (understood to be the streaming capability), not overall gameplay, nor the full feature set of the sim.

Hi,

I've now been to 55 airports in 2024 and they look very nice! I've only found a few that caused some stutters... and then there is the occasional drop to desktop crash. But it's still a work in progress.

All in all glad I picked up the Deluxe Premium version.

You can have it exactly in the way it was explained to you before, during, and after downloading the alpha. The value of the test is, you know what, it’s all there for you. If you can’t understand the (very plain) language used then that’s your problem.

My standard test is to take off from EGLC, turn left at the Thames and follow until it runs out. Testing that flight in MSFS2024 was the only time that the trees looked like real trees the entire flight, and not just nearest the airport or in London. And all the buildings looked like real brick, mortar, wood, stone. I like MSFS2024 the way it is now, and it's going to get better.

Nothing is ever ready. 2020 was never ready and got quarterly sim updates for 3 years. So I don't care.

To make 2024 look better, you can just copy and paste any or all of your addons in 2020 community over into the 2024 community folder. Regions, airports, cities, mesh, etc.

We’ll agree to disagree. It won’t take long to determine who is right and wrong. The first preview with influencers as rough, and so is the alpha. My expectations are tempered but long term it will be amazing. Just not in 5 weeks.

That is apparently a temporary folder structure for the Alpha. Not everything works though. Some addons will need an update, others will stop working, as some of the previously accessible core files and folders can no longer be overridden. Asobo chose to lock them (there is already a discussion going on about that). Edit: this will not affect airports or aircraft in general, but for example those "meta" addons that manipulate the user interface.

I think your conclusion is spot on. So much is broken in 2024. It IS an Alpha. It probably needs another 3 to 6 months, assuming there is an open beta. I think these guys should have a come to ******* moment and push the release back.

I wish I was wrong, but I truly believe that the real beta testers will be those of us who buy MS24 on November 19th.
