November 4, 20241 yr What airport and why will you chose as your career mode home base in the coming 2024? Personally, I havent decided for myself. In one way I would like to pick a location that has a flight school in real life located on the airport. Other factors would be weather as I'm not sure it we can use live weather in career mode or not. Would be interested in knowing if we can easily change our home base airport as well. i9-13900K O/C | ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero | 32GB DDR5 6000MHz Kingston FURY | RTX 4090 24GB | 2x SSD M.2 (2TB Samsung 990 PRO) 1x SSD (4TB Samsung 870 EVO) | Windows 11 Home | H20: HydroLux PRO:HardLine Tubing| 1000w PSU | Starlink WiFi
November 4, 20241 yr Thats a good question. I chose my local airport. I hope we can relocate or even open other bases down the road. There was the 'Company' tab no one has gotten to see. I was kind of hoping they would use one of these Wednesdays to delve into it a bit more but they have not. There was a slider for clouds on the mission page. I would assume it uses live weather and that option is there to disable clouds incase of inclement weather when your attempting a VFR mission. Again, that's just speculation since we don't really know yet.
November 4, 20241 yr Assuming I can choose any airport I want, KSKX. Neat flying around there, especially with the mandate to avoid overflying a nearby pueblo. Several nice mountain airports within easy reach of even a C150, and Santa Fe / Albuquerque / Denver aren't very far either. And if the scenery in 2024 is all it's cracked up to be, I'm hoping they've modeled the aspens in the mountains, especially in the fall. November 4, 20241 yr You can choose any small airport, not every airport. i don’t know how they decide what ones to exclude. Maybe by square footage. My local airport is primarily and airbase, but does have a civilian fly club and lessons, but I couldn’t use it in the tech alpha.
November 4, 20241 yr If it's an option, I'm likely going to choose a strip in the Caribbean somewhere. Terrance B. Lettsome Intl (TUPJ) on Tortola would be my first choice. I get plenty of cold, snowy weather at home in real life so I don't need to simulate it as well. Might as well choose something more tropical. 🙂
November 4, 20241 yr Anything but my home base or even my home country I think. Somewhere with challenging terrain for firefighting ops and helicopter missions, maybe New Zealand? Edited November 4, 20241 yr by outermarker
November 4, 20241 yr Esperance (TFFG) on French St. Martin. There's a flying school and I did an introductory flight there.
November 4, 20241 yr Ordinarily it would be EGKA but I did that with Neofly and flying across the Channel every day got boring, so I moved base to mid northern Spain and then over to the Balkans somewhere I forget exactly where, it was nice though. Think in this instance it'll be a good through examination of the World Map before deciding where to call "Home". November 4, 20241 yr Meh. It's more fun to fly anywhere and everywhere. Pick a new spot each flight. Different plane, different departure. New departure and approach challenges each flight. That being said, I do like a few go-to's for doing a practice flight. Typically, KTTD for GA patter work, KSEA, EGLC, KDEN for large airliner practice etc. 7800+4090+64ram Just Flight RJ, 146 and F28, Piper Arrows ---A2A Aerostar and Comanche---Black Square Starship, Duke(s), TBM, Bonanza/BaronV2, KingAir---FSReborn FSR500---COWS Da42---FX P180, HJet & VJet---FlySimWare Chancellor and LearJet---FlightSimStudio EMB175 &P2006T---Fenix 320---PMDG DC6, 737(700+900), 777---C22J---Milviz Cessna 310 & Porter---SimWorksStudios Kodiak, PC12, Zenith & RV14---BigRadials Goose---IndiaFoxEcho MB3339+F35.
November 4, 20241 yr I like the idea of simulating what the start of a career in aviation would be like for me IRL. Being in NYC my options are likely KLDJ, KTEB and KRFG. Lots of complicated busy airspace around here. The scenery in NY is always just about the biggest performance hog in all of MSFS, especially with 3 major airports so close together. I'll probably opt for KLDJ as it's the smallest of the three.
November 4, 20241 yr Chofu Airport RJTF for me. Very close to Tokyo but also to scenic mountains and right in front of Mount Fuji and Yokohama's highrise. It also has some very nice VFR landmarks nearby that make it an ideal small airport. Editor-in-Chief at SimulationDaily.com
November 5, 20241 yr My local airport YSCB. Has a flight school. Not too big to be overwhelming, but big enough to have most of the facilities of major airports. In between Australia's two largest cities and closer to the rural heartland than either of them. Close to the Snowy Mountains for really interesting bush flying. Also a military airport. And the hilly country around Canberra is beautiful.
November 5, 20241 yr Somewhere in S.E. Asia or Oceania. Singapore maybe, or north eastern Australia or up into the Pacific. It's where my heart lies. Edited November 5, 20241 yr by Paul K Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
November 5, 20241 yr I'm tempted to start close to my IRL home, but I'll probably end up flying around a few places around the world and make a decision based on how different regions look. I might start in northern California as I love taking trips to the coastline there and it would be a fun place to have a home base.
