What's the drawback?

your money is gone earlier 🙂

did go that path yesterday, allocating the funds to the current credit card invoicing period while I saw some budgetary room. decided to pick the premium package, litte more than standard but I may only fly the albatross, all other planes I fly are 3rd party anyway. and use also few 3rd party airports primarly for my big iron flying. Anything else I may rent for try&buy.

  • The drawback is floating a loan to a multi-billion-dollar company.    Only in the gaming industry do people prepurchase a game that is NOT limited in the number of copies available.

  • If you pre order the limited edition version like me, you later find out the “limited” part refers to it limiting your access to the simulator until mid December. Thanks aerosoft

  • Refunds of pre-orders are always guaranteed on Steam. I don't think it matters what you put as the reason. You're also guaranteed a refund for released products if you do it within 2 weeks of buy

Why bother ?

Just buy at release day.

I'm not in a hurry to do that either.

So I don't have to worry about it.

I mean the money.

Plus it saves me 2-3 minutes of buying it, when it releases I can just hit the install button 😛

Though I'm actually not going to be home when it releases so that's a moot point.

Actually wait, the Steam mobile app supports remote installation.

Yes that's a very handy feature!

If one is confident that they're going to purchase a game, there's zero drawback in pre-ordering. At times there are advantages, but Microsoft decided not to take advantage of the FOMO (something Jorg said explicitly during the presentation in Arizona) people have too much, so they made the pre-order bonus something small.

So yeah, no drawbacks and a small advantage not many will likely care about too much. I'm not sure why the "preorder vs don't preorder" discussion even exists. Some people simply want to press the "buy" button earlier. Some don't. That's all there's to it.

I really like the Steam refund policy. Money back, no questions asked, if you're within 2 weeks of purchase date and have played the game less than 2 hours. I have used it many times and it's always quick and painless.

Unlike Flight1's refund policy. I was suddenly denied a refund, as I "had used the service too many times... " 😕 Now they have discontinued it altogether, since they have "experienced, that customers 'took advantage' of it too much". Sad... I'm never buying anything from Fligth1 again...

Not even the tech alpha was that bad on performance. And the Grand Canyon demo ran smoothly according to people who were there.

One advantage to waiting is all the Youtube videos that will be published. You can see if there are any big complaints about certain aircraft. Or maybe even more serious complaints. Youtube publishers rush to hurry out their monetized reviews so there should be many on day one or two.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
