This is gaming, they are the reason it exists in the first place.

Downloading at 480 Mbps. Just 11,9GB
The worst thing is, I have a meeting tonight so I have no time to fly, unless I skip my tea/dinner.

I am back from my meeting, I had left my PC on during the time and noticed MSFS2024 is almost finished loading (at 97%).

I reinstalled W11 laat weekend in preparation for MSFS2024. After seeing what MSFS2024 will offer and how much better it will be (...) I lost my interest in MSFS2020. I always like to keep my OS clean and have no interest in reinstalling old software 😉 The mods I bought I'll eventually use again in MAFS2024. I don't miss MAFS2020 and look forward to a bright future with MSFS2024. Regardless of the (expected) false start.

You don't miss it because you just re purchased it. Its like saying you don't miss your iPhone whatever it is now, because you just got an iPhone whatever it is now...

Managed to start the sim in VR mode on my Quest 3 with direct link, but for some reason my TAC Captain Pack Sidestick and Throttle Quadrant were not recognized, so kept crashing.  Profiles appeared but did not seem to work.  The Control settings are not very intuitive.  However, before crash, the A320 interior and VR graphics were pretty good, almost comparable to Aerofly FS4.  That was encouraging.  However, what is not encouraging is being stuck in the queue after restarting.  I seriously hope they provide the option to load scenery locally.  My 1Gb up/down connection seems to be useless, and I can't believe I can't even start the sim because of network access issues.

I kept the recommended setting and MSFS24 runs pretty nice...Only issue I found was on the career mode, the co-pilot is stuck standing up and won't sit down when I was taking my PPL test!..lol  I have a screen shot but don't know how to upload it

Given the known size of the MSFS community—over 15 million users—Microsoft had the data to anticipate heavy traffic on launch day. Here’s why the situation might feel especially inexcusable:

  1. Global Launch Decision: A simultaneous global launch, especially for a game relying on cloud services, maximizes the strain on servers. It shows either a gamble on their infrastructure or a lack of awareness about the consequences. Phased rollouts could have mitigated these problems without alienating the player base.

  2. MS’s Expertise in Cloud Services: Microsoft's Azure cloud powers some of the biggest businesses and platforms in the world. That such issues arise for a marquee product leveraging the same infrastructure indicates either underpreparedness or mismanagement of resources dedicated to the game.

  3. Player Expectations: Microsoft Flight Simulator isn't just any game; it's a flagship product, often highlighted in presentations about cloud innovation. Failing to deliver on this promise at launch undermines the trust of its dedicated community, especially when this isn't the first time such issues have occurred.

  4. Repeated Problems: These launch woes echo previous MSFS updates where users faced downloading issues or server overload. If the lessons from past events haven't been incorporated, it signals deeper systemic issues.

  5. Player-Centric Solutions Missing: No apology, compensation, or transparent communication about the cause of these problems has been offered yet, which amplifies the anger of players like you who feel ignored or disrespected.

These failures aren’t just technical hiccups—they reflect poor planning and disregard for the player experience. It’s fair to call on Microsoft to take accountability.

all the bloody money they have hey...this is pathectic...5 bloody hours stuck on 97%

Don't worry. You won't be able to fly anyway. I just spent $200 on a game I literally can't even get to the main menu on.

Not sure if the money they have is bloody but... the word around these parts is to do a restart and cross your fingers and maybe toes to see if you will get let in or at least join the Queue to actually get a server slot. Better than being teased at 97%
