BATC: expecting too much?

So things like 'what's the destination of the plane that's parked beside me'

He said in the video that stuff like that wouldn't be a thing in the actual release, it was just a demonstration of what it's capable of.

If you were to ask something like that in the actual release, ATC will ask you to keep to relevant comms.

  • I use BATC on every flight , and for the most part, it does a good job. I used Vatsim years ago, and after a year or two of having no controllers within 1,000 miles of where I wanted to fly, controlle

I tried BeyondAtc yesterday again after a long time with a flight to Amsterdam EHAM.

AT 30nm from the airport and at FL090  I got switched over to tower and got cleared to land..............

Say Intentions is for me much better and have a year's subscription, which of course cost money. But I don't mind paying for it.

Over a hundred flights with BATC, I have never had that happen. What were you flying?

I was flying the Fenix A320, normal flight plan. Rest of flight was ok.

I had it the other day going into KLGA 31 PROUD2 arrival. It was one of those approaches where you fly over the aiport and then get vectored. I think flying over the airport made it think I was closer.

Then the next day, same approach was fine.

I love it and don't fly without it. I just wish it evolved faster than it is and we all know that the traffic injection scope creep derailed the implementation of proper ATC because people said "I will not buy this without the traffic integration"

It's hit and miss with BATC.  For airliners it generally gets me from point A to B.  For GA flights it's been quite abysmal.  I think it does better when there are structured procedures such as SIDs and STARs to follow.

Hi Ryan - just purchased BATC - quick question - can I get away with just the SID - I would assume you need a STAR also - but in the end it may direct you to another runway which I saw on YT video based on a weather change

You have to at least plan in MCDU Dep runway and a projected arrival runway  ? or just program full flight plan in airbus and see what happens with BATC on the arrival

Why I ask is I didnt have to put in a STAR - it did ask for a STAR but def needed SID and didnt do a full flight to test it - not sure you fly the Airbus - thanks much

You don't need a Sid or a Star, it will just give you vectors for departure or arrival then.

Thanks Bob - it def wouldn't proceed with out a SID - program didn't work without a SID

I'm new to this program so no idea how it all works

It can work without a SID for sure. Did so today. If you do not enter a SID or a STAR (or both) you will be vectored. BATC does need at least one waypoint though and afaik it shouldn't be too close to the DEP or ARR.

I just took off without a SID from KMSY runway 11, no problem at all.

Thanks much I would assume best way to go about it is put in full plan and see what happens - just wondering on the arrival process how it works - arrival runway - cant get my head around that in this program 🙂

Interesting Bob - it wouldn't work for me not that I really should be doing that to begin with

Are you entering a plan in Simbrief?  You definitely don't need a SID, you will get vectored to the first waypoint.  What are they giving you for the route when you request your Clearance?
