The upcoming LLM addition will be informational only. It will have absolutely nothing to do with ATC procedures. As such it will be, imho, nothing but a perhaps fun gimmick. It won't enhance the ATC in any way. You can ask BATC things that are (somehow) related to your flight or the current 'BATC world'. So things like 'what's the destination of the plane that's parked beside me' or (perhaps) 'what approach can I expect'. Informational only. You can't ask things like 'I'd like this or that runway, please' or anything else that's related to actual ATC. I have to say I have my doubts about the realism of this LLM option... You can ask things you'd never (dare to) ask of ATC in real life. I doubt if I will use it. The only interesting part of the LLM beta is that they said it's some sort of first step towards future VFR support... in some way. I think you misunderstood the information given in that video. The dev mentioned that the off-the-cuff-whacky questions were just an example of what the LLM would be capable of. They are aiming for a far greater level of accurate interaction between the LLM and the user. It wasnt that video it was Easyjetsimpilot I think one of those YT channels - wind changed and BATC new it and changed the landing runway which was nice Edited January 3, 20251 yr by Richard Sennett Rich Sennett

January 4, 20251 yr As a new BATC user, I share the OP's concern about managing expectations for this early access product. While preview videos and YouTube content suggest a more polished experience, the reality is somewhat different. The traffic system shows promise, but it does come with a noticeable performance impact, especially for VR users like myself who are already pushing hardware limits. I've been using BATC with automated responses only and have encountered several issues: 1. Runway conflicts: Aircraft landing on occupied runways where another plane has been instructed to line up and wait. 2. Departure delays: Getting stuck waiting for takeoff when the lead aircraft stops receiving instructions, with no option to request clearance. 3. Approach vectors: Consistently receiving approach vectors that place aircraft beyond localizer range, requiring self vectoring to intercept, otherwise I overshoot the approach path with no further instructions from ATC. 4. VR compatibility: Experiencing fatal crashes when switching out of VR mode since the latest update. Given these challenges, I've decided to shelve BATC temporarily to allow for further development and refinement. Regarding alternatives, I've tested the free trial of SI. While it offers an immersive experience, the lack of AI traffic and the ongoing subscription cost make it a less appealing option for me at this time. I'm optimistic about BATC's potential but it does need more time to mature which is fair since it is clearly sold as early access. I look forward to revisiting it in the future when some of these issues have been addressed. January 4, 20251 yr For me it's working well and is really enhancing my experience. First of all at most large airports the parking assignments are now designated by Beyond ATC, so if a developer didn't assign gates (for instance Dominic Austin) you still see airlines at the gates they should be at. Seeing planes push back like a real airplane really enhances my experience from the get go. I also like that if you are pushed back and the airplane next to you want to pushback it will tell you to wait. I like the fact during the taxi the airplanes get a bit closer like realistic. I had 11 aircraft waiting for take-off in front of me. And the planes would take off. Then the next one would line up and wait then get a take off clearance it was working like clock work. Airplanes now look correct when they take off, they actually rotate and climb shallow at first. They follow SIDs they get told to climb or descend during climb and cruise. I don't see traffic buzzing towers or doing low level passes or turning sharp and not climbing. The traffic feels great. On final approch to Orlando yesterday I could see there were airplanes in front of me, but I don't worry anymore. The airplanes land and get off the runway. The airplane behind you comes in as long as you clear the runway. I'm really impressed with the traffic. I enjoy that I am told to maintain speed due to the SID or STAR restrictions now, and then told resume normal speed when appropriate. A to B IFR with a SimBrief flight plan has been pretty solid, there have been a few hiccups but nothing like the default ATC. There only a few times that Beyond ATC aggravates me. For some reason 3 critical phases of flight are never understood.. Denver departure United 2213 climbing 7thuosand 6hundred for 9er thousand... The response: United 2213 Denver Departure say altitude. I did say the altitude. then i say "8. thousand. feet. United 2213.. and then that is understood. I do not understand why it can't figure this one out. The next one is on a visual approcah. United 2213 airport is at your 2 o clock 12 miles report the field in sight. "field in sight united 2213. ...... United 2213 report field in sight. FIELD. IN. SIGHT. United 2213. Then it works. The last one is waiting to cross a runway on the ground. "Southwest 209 holding short of 25R at Romeo waiting to cross" Southwest 209 Phoenix ground I didn't get that. So now I just say "Waiting to cross 25R Southwest 209" and that works some times but more often than not I have to just hit the waiting to cross command. Still no VFR but the IFR part is getting pretty good especially with the traffic controller. I'm still on 2020 for realistic flights until 2024 gets a bit more sorted and more of my addons work. I like what BeyondATC is doing and look forward to the future. It's working pretty good so its still better than talking to myself on VATSIM 90% of the time. Europeans seem to have a better time than Americans. Unless you want to fly from LA to SFO or NYC to Chicago for every flight VATSIM is usually not a good option. I have yet to complete a flight on VATSIM with controllers the entire way.

Pete's been typing like that for as long as I 'know' him (and not only on AVSIM): I have the idea he is using an alternative text input method, perhaps due to some physical limitations. I think there is a reason behind his kind of typing. (I could be totally wrong though.) My point is: if you want to know why Pete types like that it might be wiser to ask this in a friendly manner first before getting a bit sarcastic. You might regret your post in a while.

I bought BATC, and have the same issue. This is why I mainly use it for "background aural immersion" (listening to ATIS, getting clearance, take off, etc.). As soon as I reach TOD, I fly according to the charts, ignoring all "vectoring instructions". I got my money's worth: even the default free voices are quite nice, easy install, easy update process, etc. Plus, as others have mentioned, it's still early access.
January 4, 20251 yr Author Wow, I certainly stirred the pot. Not on purpose though, my post was actually meant to be positive in nature. I was just looking for some help. I will take the fact that is still early access. Last night I had less woes with the speech-recognition, although my English isn't bad. I actually speak it daily at work. Something interesting happened yesterday though, I had an AI controller make "my" AI repeat the instruction twice, like it didn't understand or accept the first acknowledgement. And... I was landing at LDDU, I got the STAR and rwy, but then it wanted to vector me, however I didn't receive any vectors. I just flew the approach. Maybe I did something wrong, I don't know. I'll be doing more flights...

While it is true that BATC is still EA I do sometimes think this card is often played too easily, specially by some specific support guys on the BATC Discord. I guess it's very convenient being able to use that phrase. The same goes for the 'you-are-the-pilot-in-command'-card: too often people are being told to take matters into their own hands and take control over this or that while I think 'Okay... but this is what I bought an ATC addon for...!'. This happens a LOT when people ask questions about ATC not telling you to descent in time or clears you for the approach way too early. I get where lines like "background aural immersion" are coming from: too often I have to 'wake up' ATC to do their job. As if I am on control and not ATC. And (still) too often I have to ignore what ATC says to succesfully complete my flight. Things have improved a LOT though during the last year, I have to add. I simply do hope the mentioned 'cards' won't have to be played anymore in the near future. 😉 Having said all that: I LOVE BATC and refuse to fly without it. 😉 Edited January 4, 20251 yr by mistolip
January 4, 20251 yr Interesting thread. I own BATC but haven't used it much since it was released. It does look like there are some significant issues though, so at the moment I'll continue to use another ATC addon. But I'm increasingly tempted to give BATC a go. Question (yes Farlis, I know I can find this info by googling or checking the BATC webpage or Discord - it's just quicker to ask the question here): With a standard edition, will I have access to AI traffic injection? 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
