Captain Sim Space Shuttle

Featured Replies

Remember everyone this is NOT the first shuttle from CS, as they released one for FS9 over a decade ago, maybe 15 years!. So they SHOULD have had the time to get as much right system wise as they ever will!

It's a Captain Sim product, so cracking a joke is warranted.

Hi,

With no launch, ascent or orbital phases modeled what's the point? All you have a very expensive glider. Just another half baked product which seems to be more of the norm now-a-days. Capsim has had a shuttle in their barn for many years, one would think that they would have gone further than this by now.

Well, we do not know how accurate the approach and landing simulation is yet. Based on the video, I am not optimistic. The Shuttle isn't even lined up with the runway during the final approach phase.

EDIT: Is this a manual approach from 50K feet with no diamond on the HUD?

The reference manual was 127 pages...  It took me a couple of weeks to really get all of the operations down but it was a lot of fun.

Just get Kerbal Space Program and build your own shuttle with proper orbital dynamics.

To be fair, I don’t think MSFS could simulate the launch, ascent or orbital phases.

I've seen Atlantis and Discovery, should have said smoother

Yes, I enjoyed playing SSM2007.....a long time ago. I have been waiting for the sequel for well over a decade, but I have given up hope that it will ever be released.

Hi,

That was one amazing program, I too was waiting for the program to get taken to the next level. In their download section you'll find all the mission booklets I created for each ride, they took you step by step through each mission.

This was a great program, was hoping for a new version. I spent numerous days, hours at a clip with this program. I created mission booklets for all their flights, I was a beta tester way back when. I even created the shutdown procedure, even though 2007 didn't go that far.

Looks like they're in BETA for Space Shuttle Mission II...

(Posted on 11-20-24)
After an eternity we FINALLY released the first BETA for internal testing.

Well, it was actually released a couple of weeks ago, and first bugs has been fixed and more will probably come in as time goes by. ???
But now major glitches do far.

Before we start adding more missions the first priority is to add input configuration possibility. Something that has been the real drawback since day one for this sim.

Yes, but they're not apparent in the way that the video shows them on the CS shuttle. Probably a lighting issue.

Shuttle pilots used to say being right on centerline at touchdown wasn't all that big of a deal. You just needed to get to centerline by the time you stopped for the photo-op. 😉

As much as I love KSP (1, not 2), you'd be better off with Orbiter for this. It has a shuttle you can download, and KSP is really, really not good at things with wings.

Why give Capt Sim your money when you can simulate a bunch of space shuttle missions for free!

https://playclassic.games/games/simulation-dos-games-online/play-shuttle-the-space-flight-simulator-online/

I'm not a NASA nerd and have no idea how accurate the procedures are, but you'll spend literally hours on the launch pad if you don't speed up time. According to Wikipedia, it seems to have not only been up for sim of the year by Computer Gaming World magazine, but was also rated as the 50th worst computer game ever released by the same magazine. Sounds about right for a hard-core sim 😂

(I was searching for a space shuttle game that I had no idea how to play as a kid and found the above... the game I was thinking of was actually this one for the Atari 2600)

I used those mission guides, Mike! They were really helpful
