Well I decided to get the IFly Max today, and so far I am disappointed. Just setting up a flight compared to the PMDG is a PIA.. Now I find there isn't even a click spot for the FS switch to arm them, or the AT switch either.  I think I just waisted  $70.

The scissors or the needle?   It makes a big difference to me , kind of like if PMDG are going to charge $5, or $25!  One will be quite a bit more painful than the other.

Also relevant is whether they will 'grease the deal' (on both counts).  With PMDG maybe adding enhanced 2024 features to make the price more worthwhile.

Anyway, nice anecdote David!

Not at my sim computer at the moment, but in the iFly Manager, there is an option to change the Mouse Interaction process (can't remember what it's called).  You need to change that or most toggle switches are operated with the middle mouse (very odd design choice by default).

You are right, the mouse wheel triggers the switches. Thanks, would have never figured that one out. Weird design

 

Left-click turn left or down.

Right-click turn right or up.

Anything else is nonsense 😉

I have a whole suite of CpFlight hardware products that doesnt work with this but i still think this bird is worth it at least for its handflying and true to real life and sound experience. 

It is still just version 1.02

The next obstacle is apparently Active Sky weather. I don't see how I can get the IFly max to read it. Any ideas?

Not a my computer but i believe only Simbrief wind is supported( simular to the Fenix Airbus?)

If you created the flight plan with simbrief and AS historical weather, this will be uploaded to ifly when you request the plan via CDU. Also in the EFB you should go to PANEL STYLE, CONTROL DISPLAY UNIT (CDU), then under ACARS, you have to choose ASFS (TXT) and press set to enable it.

OK, I got that sorted out and I see AS weather now. What is left after 2 hours of trying to set up a flight ( unreal), is on the FMC on the Active Init page above the Trans alt there are 3 blank lines. crs/wind  ISA and T/CV OAT. Where am I supposed to find that info? On the PMDG it is automatically filled in.

Well Normally this is done manually and all information is n  the top right of your Simbrief plan. Also in the manual. 

It took my 15 minutes at first without the Manual Bob😉

The Cruise Wind is found on the OFP labelled as 'AVG WIND' or similar.

The OAT will be found on an OFP waypoint at the cruise altitude.

I found this note I'd made on ISA deviation, I've no idea if it's accurate...

 

Above FL360, a thermal boundary layer between the troposphere and the stratosphere called the tropopause limits the ISA temperature to -57ºC.

e.g., for 37,000 ft, the ISA temperature would be: -57ºC.
If the OAT at 37,000 ft is -59ºC, then the ISA deviation would be -2ºC.
If the OAT at 37,000 ft is -56ºC, then the ISA deviation would be +1ºC.

I absolutely love the iFly MAX. In fact, I might not bother to install my PMDG 737s in 2024 at all. As for the 777, I think it’s great, so I’ll probably use it when it’s  available (whenever that is).
