February 9, 20251 yr How much have they improved over MSFS 2020? Do the lights actually look brighter with more prominent bloom. Because I felt that the night lighting in MSFS 2020 was lacking. I had always wish that the lights would be brighter and have a more prominent glow to them. I like how the lights look in this video. Personally, I think it looks great 🙂 But then I am still in awe about how 2024 looks, period.. The lighting, shadowing, vegetation, surface detail, it all is a real step up from 2020. Here some shots over Vancouver.. looking pretty good to me.. Edited February 9, 20251 yr by Bert Pieke Bert
February 9, 20251 yr There are several videos posted. Check them out. I did not like 2024's night lighting when viewed from above. Too many white blobs. MSFS
February 9, 20251 yr Yeah, much improved. My only issue is the melted photogammetry buildings that look terrible. 7800+4090+64ram Just Flight RJ, 146 and F28, Piper Arrows ---A2A Aerostar and Comanche---Black Square Starship, Duke(s), TBM, Bonanza/BaronV2, KingAir---FSReborn FSR500---COWS Da42---FX P180, HJet & VJet---FlySimWare Chancellor and LearJet---FlightSimStudio EMB175 &P2006T---Fenix 320---PMDG DC6, 737(700+900), 777---C22J---Milviz Cessna 310 & Porter---SimWorksStudios Kodiak, PC12, Zenith & RV14---BigRadials Goose---IndiaFoxEcho MB3339+F35.
February 10, 20251 yr It's better for the most part. Light orbs are brighter and a bit more realistic. The bad news is the sepia mask is much worse and you see fields lit up right underneath you. It's more obvious the higher you are. They need to push the radius out 20-30 miles. Seems this regression is a low priority for them... Seb said in the December Dev Q&A they're working on an alterative to completely replace it. But I imagine the bugs are taking higher priority. Edited February 10, 20251 yr by Tuskin38
February 10, 20251 yr The same old yellow blobs when flying at altitude. Anyone who says night lighting is great in FS2024 clearly only flies GA. Is the "glowing Nile" any good? Edited February 10, 20251 yr by Langeveldt

February 10, 20251 yr I think that the night lighting is better in MS2024 although I have noticed shimmering on objects (trees, mountains) during dusk in misty or cloudy weather which kills the realism somewhat. But overall, to me at least "proper" night has improved in the latest version of the sim. I haven't flown much at night in real-life. During winter months when I was broadcasting traffic news from an aircraft we used to leave in the dark for the morning shift and return in the dark following our evening jaunts across the U.K so I only really experienced it at low to mid levels. Maybe "high flyers" feel differently about it but at the kind of altitudes I'm used to flying at I'm pretty impressed. Hope this helps! Even just turning it off would be better than what we have. No blobs at all. For a sim that looks so incredible during the day, it doesn't half look strange at night.
