I also reduced ally airports....

I saw some airports using up to 8k textures ....insane...that's why they are performance heavy...and eat VRAM like cookies in MSFS2024.

I reduced them to maximum 2048. Looks still great, for VR users a great opportunity to gain some FPS at heavy airports like KLGA or KMIA, LEBL, LEMD, ENBR, ENTC....all used high texture resolution.

Are these default airports or payware?

  • FSLTL needs to add that feature. 1024 should be good enough for most of us.

Because I reduce texture sizes, I usually remove the folder from packages and re-install,but there should be a base package update option. From discord: FSLTL Base Models 1.5 available in FB

My issue was I had some old, empty AIG folders from a previous installation in my 2024 community folder.  Deleted those and problem solved.

Are you using this software? https://www.ddsconverter.com/

Thank you!

I downloaded DDS Converter but as far as I can see there is no way to reduce the textures but only convert to other text formats!?
Maybe you can explain further?

I used the process and went with 512. It was straightforward following the instructions. The AI traffic looks fine to me.

I did the same today and 512 is fine for VATSIM traffic. I don't need more detail than that since my RTX 3070 only has 8 GB of VRAM. This proved super helpful performance wise with the inibuilds A350 in MSFS2020. Thanks for sharing your experience and the resulting encouragement.

Hi stefanwa.
would you be so kind as to explain how you used DDS Converter to reduce the textures in FSTL?

Yes, I have. But I used the DDS Converter. Much much easier to use, quick and after that I updated the layout.json as well, tested with BATC and FSLTL, works both.

With the DDS Converter you are able to set some standards and fire and forget after.

I never knew one could downscale textures for FSTL - I downsized to 1K and recovered 40 GB of space. Whole texture downsizing is straightforward process but it does require some basic understanding on how use to command prompt.

Am I missing files or something?? Because my FSLTL folder is not anywhere near 40GB and I haven't resized anything...

If you didn't resize it should be more than 40GB. If it isn't, there is something wrong.

Something is not right somewhere then - my original FSLTL folder was almost 46 GB before I had downscaled to 5 GB earlier today.

45.3 GB on my end! I think people might be confusing the download size with the extracted size. Either that or you and I have a bug. I encourage anyone who says it's nowhere near 40GB to go check the models folder itself (fsltl-traffic-base), being sure not to check the injector folder or something else by mistake.

I just reinstalled it to see. The installer downloads 7.5GB in separate 500MB chunks, then compiles them into an 8GB zip file named "full.zip" and subsequently extracts them to a folder called extract>full which inflates to over 45GB. That is the correct size of the full version 1.5 model library as far as I can tell!

I'd guess if someone has a folder smaller than that, something failed during the FSLTL process whereby it downloads, zips, extracts, then copies the folder (the copy step may only happen if your download and install paths are different in FBW Installer, but I suspect it happens regardless.) If you didn't have 45.3+ GB free, I'd expect you would have received an error message during install but maybe it could have silently failed.

I've been testing 2024 and even though I disabled default traffic, I still see default airliners popping up at airports when using the fsltl injector.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Did you set "No generics" to YES? By the way, FSLTL is useless in 2024 for now, most aircraft don't land.

It's set to no. You are right about it being useless, if it doesn't work as it should.
