April 13, 20251 yr I currently run an AMD 5800X3D with an RTX 3060 GPU (12Gb Vram), and 64 GB system ram. Due to the crazy VRAM issues in MSFS2024, I'm looking to upgrade my GPU but NVIDIA cards are so _____ expensive it doesn't seem very good value for price. Instead I was looking at this AMD card instead: SAPPHIRE NITRO+ AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX Vapor-X 24GB GDDR6 I love the 24GB VRAM and it has decent reviews, but then I realized I won't be able to use DLSS. How big a deal is that for MSFS2024? Is this a good idea? Bad idea? Suggestions? Also, I can't get my head around the idea of an equivalent being an RTX 40 series card which feels already a generation old. Help and rec's kindly! AMD 5830X Nvidia RTX 3060 Win 11
April 13, 20251 yr If the Price is an issue, what about a 5070TI 16GB Vram and in stock at Scan in the UK for between £869-£889, along with DLSS 4. AMD 9800X3D, NZXT X73 RGB AIO COOLER, Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite WIFI7, 64GB 6000MHZ RAM, 4TB Samsung Pro NVME, 4 TB Crucial P3+ NVME, 4TB Crucial SSD, Gigabyte Gaming OC Geforce RTX5090, Antec C8 ARGB Case, X55 JOYSTICK/THROTTLES, LG 4K C4 42" TV/Monitor 120 Hz, 2 Dell 1080 monitors. Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, Bravo Throttle. Thrustmaster TPR Pedals. Moza AB6 FFB Joystick, Pimax Crystal Light VR, Tobii Eye tracker, Steelseries Arctis 7+ Wireless Headphones.
April 13, 20251 yr Author It's an idea but I worry that MSFS 2024 seems to need massive amounts of VRAm so 24GB might future proof for a bit. Not sure how critical DLSS is. AMD 5830X Nvidia RTX 3060 Win 11
April 13, 20251 yr Just by thinking about the vram requirements, I went with the 7900xtx with 24gb vram. No issues so far Juan Ramos
April 13, 20251 yr I believe (not tried the beta) that SU2 will support FSR 3. I currently use Lossless Scaling. A gob smacking app that costs a fiver on Steam. I bought my 7900 XT mid-2023 because it was an affordable way of getting 20GB of VRAM (the 4070 had 12 GB and the 4080 cost 50% more). April 13, 20251 yr Author Yes, I think FSR is available on the SU2 beta and I use Lossless scaling too. 24Gb of VRAM seemed crazy a year ago but given the current state of the sim it seems all of a sudden like 12 and 16Gb won't keep things at bay going forward. Hopefully they optimize more but still... AMD 5830X Nvidia RTX 3060 Win 11
April 13, 20251 yr My 6800XT Nitro+ has served me well, I bought it during Covid when GPU supply was also limited. The 6800XT was available. It has 16GB VRAM which has just been enough, when flying in 4K. However in my new Rig (9800X3D, 128GB ram) that I've recently built I pre-ordered a 5090, I'm still waiting for it to arrive, hopefully in 2-3 weeks Edited April 13, 20251 yr by Amon1973 AMD 9800X3D, NZXT X73 RGB AIO COOLER, Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite WIFI7, 64GB 6000MHZ RAM, 4TB Samsung Pro NVME, 4 TB Crucial P3+ NVME, 4TB Crucial SSD, Gigabyte Gaming OC Geforce RTX5090, Antec C8 ARGB Case, X55 JOYSTICK/THROTTLES, LG 4K C4 42" TV/Monitor 120 Hz, 2 Dell 1080 monitors. April 14, 20251 yr I believe MS/Asobo are aware of the vram issues and are supposed to be working on a fix. I certainly hope so as requiring 24+ GB of vram is ludicrous. $7000 for a 5090 is beyond silly. For Nvidia a 5080 also works, I would suggest 5070 but that has the least amount of VRAM for all of these. For 1440p any of these cards work. I wouldn’t buy a high VRAM card based on bug Asobo said they’re resolving.

April 14, 20251 yr Since SU2 does support FSR 3 there is no need to buy expensive Nvidia cards anymore, AMD is also a good choice in case you upgrade to 4K in the future. April 14, 20251 yr It's an artificial restriction of the companies to provide only a few extremely high-priced 24G+ video cards. I will never go down below 24 GB VRAM, so my upgrade possibilities are limited and expensive too. - Harry 9800x3D (Strix x870e-E) - 64GB RAM (DDR5 6000, CL 30) - RTX 5090, 34'' 1440p OLED HDR - Windows 11 Pro (1TB M.2) - MSFS 2024 (MS Store, 4TB M.2).
