FS24 isn't doing well on Steam. Neither is FS20.

Featured Replies

The poor launch of FS24 has taken a toll on user stats from Steam. I am sure that MS and Asobo are looking at this data, so hopefully they get their act together.

Max Players:

November 24 - 24,863
December 24 - 6,787 (72.7% drop)
January 25 - 5,818 (14.3% drop)
February 25 - 4,763 (18.1% drop)
March 25 - 4,433 (6.9% drop)

Overall drop: 82.17%

During the same period MSFS has seen a drop of 28%. Meanwhile X-Plane 12 has seen an increase of 13% over that period.

Er, people who are interested in flight simulation and the prospect of continued support for our hobby down the years? As usual it will probably turn into another miserable MSFS 2020 vs MSFS 2024

This is why I don't really use it. Who cares if the physics and ground are so good, when objects are popping in front of you? Or melted buildings and blobs of trees are surrounding an airport. You can

Looking at steam charts over the past year, I'm not seeing any growth of XP12 - very minimal if there is any. With that said, it is clear that 2024 hasn't done great.

What is your point?

If it is a simulator as some believe it has a niche market.

If it is a game there is plenty of competition in that category.

So your data is pointless.

The  2024 sharks will now be in a feeding frenzy. 🤣

This is nothing new though. Checkout MSFS 2020's peak numbers on SteamDB. It was on release back in the August of 2020. MSFS 2020 never reached the peak numbers of August 2020 again. Eventually, casuals and light flight simmers get bored and leave flight simulation. I have seen real life pilots (or they previously held a PPL) stream MSFS 2020 and 2024 on its initial release, but despite being a real life pilot (or former real life pilot), they also got bored and eventually started streaming other games.

It appears MSFS 2024's numbers are stabilizing in the 4K range. I expect those numbers to pick up when more high profile add-ons are converted over, such as the PMDG lineup.

Interesting. I didn't really analyze data for MSFS going back to launch, but maybe this is more of a typical drop and it stabilizes here. Time will tell.

Looks like, at present, twice as many are using 2020 versus 2024. I have noticed that numbers are trending down with 2024, while 2020 numbers remain pretty steady.

You're assuming steam is 90% of the playerbase.

FS2020/2024 are also on MS Store/Xbox and gamepass is very cheap so I am guessing a lot of people just use it that way.

I doubt they would be putting as many resources/$$$ if there were 5-8k total users.

I think a lot of people are waiting for a more stable FS24. There are a lot of add-ons built for FS20, so might be hard for some to give some of those up.

In real time (Steam):

MSFS2020:

https://steamdb.info/app/1250410/charts/

MSFS2024:

https://steamdb.info/app/2537590/charts/

It looks like the proportion is close to 2 to 1 (players right now). Just real stats on the Steam platform.

While I think that MS/Asobo may not be meeting internal expectations at this point, MS24 will continue to grow with each update.

IMO, MS24 was released about 2 years too early, but I think it will be fine in the long run. With companies like MOZA and Turtle Beach now investing in flight controllers, there are many other indicators that the flight sim community will grow and grow with MS/20/MS24 being the dominant sim of choice.
