FS24 isn't doing well on Steam. Neither is FS20.

Post of the Year!

For you yes, no doubt it is.

The management at Msobo needs to be cleaned out, for what they have done to simmers.

I have checked my body over several times since 2020/2024 releases.  I can confirm no new appendages have been found, or have any been removed.

Er, people who are interested in flight simulation and the prospect of continued support for our hobby down the years? As usual it will probably turn into another miserable MSFS 2020 vs MSFS 2024

This is why I don't really use it. Who cares if the physics and ground are so good, when objects are popping in front of you? Or melted buildings and blobs of trees are surrounding an airport. You can

2020 is the best sim I ever had. And I've been simming since Sublogic ATP. Just curious what makes it garbage? LOL

Pretty sure he's talking about @Greazer 's position rather than the sim. 🤙

Nobody wanted 2024 though.  It caught us by surprise, it was the sim we didn't need.  They really dropped the ball and are now trying to pick up the pieces.

Totally agree with your post other than this snip here.

Aside from the cloud-related drama, v2024 is certainly what many of us were asking for.

And I'm not talking about "pebbles", either.

The Physics have been substantially improved to the point that I don't care to fly most anything that either wasn't up-graded for or specifically developed for v2024's much better physics.

Meanwhile, Game Pass had 34 million subscribers last year, and Microsoft's last fiscal quarter saw a 30% growth in PC Game Pass subscribers. Anyone who thinks the majority of MSFS 2024 users are on Steam is mistaken.

I meant that facetiously. Clearly, 2020 came like a lightning bolt out of the blue compared to FSX (or anything else that existed at that time.)

Asobo? Microsoft?

No. Steam player data is absolutely useless.

I think as more addons become fully compatible then MSFS 2024 will grow considerably...eg. I deleted MSFS2020 knowing I won't have PMDG aircraft or full use of my all my PU CDU's in MSFS2024 for a few more months...however once developers like PMDG get their suite into MSFS2024 officially things will change.  I'm mostly waiting for the 747 models to arrive.

I fired up FS24 today just to see how the latest SU was looking. I went to get some water and came back to my Windows desktop. Sigh.

Yep, they will be gathering their data via their servers.

Every sim I had, I always dreamt to have the world exactly how I see from the cockpit of actual airplane! I remember buying tons of ORBX photo sceneries in FSX.A fight between my wallet and disk space ! LOL

Jajaja

Complaining about disk space is something I've never understood, storage is currently very cheap compared to the thousands of dollars of hardware needed to move 2024 decently, and that's without taking into account the wear and tear on SSDs from constant data streaming.

I personally still don't see the supposed advantages of 2024 graphics over 2020 or X-plane other than the placebo effect many seem to have in their mind. PG coverage is ridiculously reduced compared to the size of the planet and much of that reduced coverage is horrible to the point that many of us are forced to turn it off, so the supposed graphical advantage disappears except in specific cases, because biomes barely have any impact on a flight simulator except for a very specific type of simulation.

I think a lot of people are waiting for a more stable FS24. There are a lot of add-ons built for FS20, so might be hard for some to give some of those up.

at this data, so hopefully they get their act together.

Max Players:

November 24 - 24,863
December 24 - 6,787 (72.7% drop)
January 25 - 5,818 (14.3% drop)
February 25 - 4,763 (18.1% drop)
March 25 - 4,433 (6.9% drop)

Overall drop: 82.17%

During the same period MSFS has seen a drop of 28%. Meanwhile X-Plane 12 has seen an increase of 13% over that period.

All of those numbers are about what one would expect about now.  Xplane 12 always shows around 10-14% of the active users on Steam that MSFS 2020 has so a 13% increase moves that up to 11-15%.  Surely they picked up a few new users because of 2024's status.  At this moment in the late evening in the USA MSFS 2020+2024 has 4,244 actives users and Xplane 12 has 402 actives users or a little less than 10%.   2024 is still so limited with 3rd party content it's going to stay hung back until that improves greatly and once that happens 2020 will fade back big time because it's pretty clear 2024 has a lot of meaningful improvements making 2020 pretty much irrelevant once 2024 matures.

At the last Expo, the marketplace update session had graphs that showed Steam has the lowest number of users of 2020, far below PC and X-box, in fact at times even mobile had more, so I am not sure it makes sense to conclude too much from Steam data.

That said, the introduction of 2024 was atrocious. No need to rehash all the difficulties here but even the Marketplace did not come online until March, four months after release! Some of the changes I just cannot comprehend, the UI is not particularly pleasant and the control assignments are terrible!  So, it is really quite understandable that many decided to wait, others tried it quite reasonably and went back to 2020. I agree with what most have said here that as the sim gets some more updates and 3rd party content becomes available that 2024 will grow. There are a lot of positives with 2024, but it needed proper beta testing, not just for bugs but for functionality.
