April 21, 20251 yr Author Here's what it says in English at the link in the post immediately above by SN737: In Windows 11, you can activate a button that allows you to stop frozen program processes at any time. This saves you the cumbersome detour via the Task Manager. In a perfect world, operating systems and the programs they run would always run flawlessly, but the reality is different. Every now and then it happens that some programs crash or get so bogged down that they can no longer be closed without further ado. Most experienced users then follow the same procedure: open the Task Manager, search for the relevant process and close it. Useful shortcut With the right trick, however, this can be done much faster. The Windows Latest website currently refers to a “secret” button that can be used to quickly close frozen programs at any time. However, the function is not really “secret” - but rather unknown. Under Settings > System > For developers, Windows 11 users can activate the End task function. This adds the function of the same name to the context menu of apps in the taskbar. The “End task” function saves the detour via the Task Manager and if a program hangs, you can then right-click on it in the taskbar and simply end it. Windows then searches for and stops the corresponding process. This closes the program even if it no longer responds to messages from the operating system. I did this, and now after closing the sim in the normal "Quit To Desktop" manner, etc., and I see the sim icon in the taskbar that indicates the sim is still running, when I right click on that icon I get the option to End Task as shown below. Clicking on that does close the sim. So this is perhaps a little bit "easier" then opening the Task Manager and closing the sim that way. Al Edited April 21, 20251 yr by ark

April 21, 20251 yr ... also does this mean that some Sim settings, alterations done while flying or points earned updates etc are not being written to drive, web etc ?

Let asobo fix the issue, at the moment there is no way to solve anything for us. Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).
April 21, 20251 yr If you have the Fenix and/or AutoFPS, sometimes those apps won't close when shutting down the sim, making Windows/Steam think 2020/2024 is still running. Edited April 21, 20251 yr by Tuskin38

April 23, 20251 yr Ahem. 😖 Not quite 'faultlessly' I'm afraid. When you start up again you're asked to choose between Normal or Safe modes. So two clicks then. Still better than Task Managering. Still better than Task Managering. Interesting, I don't get the Normal vs Safe message -- the sim just starts up. One minor advantage of the batch file over the End Task option described above is I found for the End Task option to work I first had to "Quit to Desktop" with the sim. That doesn't seem to be the case with the batch file. I am using Win11 in case that makes any difference, and pinned the batch file to the Taskbar for convenience. Al Edited April 23, 20251 yr by ark
April 24, 20251 yr After finishing my 2024 testing, I decided to go back to 2020, only to find that my sim is no longer closing properly. I have to use the task manager to close msfs 2020. Was this introduced after the last update? MSFS

Two of us W10ers had the same reaction. It's getting 'ordinary' now. I'm just going to forget about it. It'll get fixed...Eventually. The World is divided into two groups.
