MS2024, worth it at this time or wait?

Featured Replies

Whenever PMDG releases the 777-200ER, that is the time to make the full switch. Already transitioned from gamepass in preparation.

Depends on what kind of flying you like to do..  For GA flying, 2024 is really good, and no need to wait.  Quite amazing to go on cross country flights and have great scenery all the way, without buyi

  • I am going to wait a few more months at least until 2024 is settled down, in the mean time 2020 is working great.

Okay I've decided to pull the trigger on 2024, although I'll probably wait until SU2 is out of beta testing.  It's not so much the money but the learning curve of a new flight sim and wanting one that

Is this an online only sim, even for GA individual flights?  I have a very strong and stable internet connection, but that would really make me think twice about ever getting MS2024.

Thanks for all the input.  One very important bit of information I left out was all of my flying is GA, usually anywhere from 1 hr to 3 hr flights.  I don't ever see myself getting into commercial jets or long haulers.

Bert P mentioned it was fine for GA flying.  I may wait for SU2 to finish beta testing though.

Thanks Again, Tom

Then definitely get 2024 after SU2 releases (soon). As others have said, for low and slow flying 2024 is an unparalleled experience. Bush flying is really fun. Apart from the world terrain visuals, 2024's improvements in flight dynamics and ground handling (both runway and other terrain) are especially noticeable with GA flying, water handling is improved too. Various good aircraft choices in the default GA fleet along with 3rd party options.

I've been using 2024 soley since the first compatibility patch for the Fenix came out. I uninstalled 2020 pretty soon after that.

If you avoid career mode, it works fine.

yes, you need internet. Why the hesitance of online? Most Tv, Netflix and everything else needs internet.

Are the planes you are looking for available in MS24? If so, your visual experience is miles better then p3d (looks ancient).

If you're not going to any Beta, it is stable.

well look no further then.

P3d v5 and MSFS24 comparison. Scenery is default (Mount Pilatus, south of Lucerne in Switzerland).

You can see the advancements in terrain/scenery. And I don't necessarliy think P3D v5 looks "bad", it's just feels vanilla and generic.

GA is MSFS24 forte. Esecially if you pair it with a great GA flyer, such as the COWS DA40 XLS (pictured) or A2A Comanche.

And the sim runs great on my 6yo rig (RTX 2080ti, 9900k).

It is online only, which is an ongoing concern, at least for me. 😉

Luckily, my 75 Mbps connection streams the content in the background, and 90% of the time, there are no bandwidth issues.

I have installed 2024 twice. The most recent about a month ago. It was glitchy, with the worst thing being completely blurry scenery and some kind of check your bandwidth message every time I tried to fly. Seeing that I have gigabit fiber internet and that 2020 has no bandwidth issues, it's clear that 2024 was the problem. I am not far from the MSFS North American East server, and I tried switching to different servers but no help. If you decide on 2024 I would get standard edition through Game Pass first to see if it will work for you.

It may actually be your ISP... Some have reported ISPs throttling bandwidth for popular games.. I am lucky to have zero bandwidth issues with 2024, at least at present.. 😉

Thanks Bert.  You must live close to my oldest sister. She's lived on Salt Spring Island for ~ 30 yrs now.  My middle sister lives in West Kelowna.  Both migrated to Canada about 45 yrs to 50 yrs ago.  I guess they could both see into the future.

Jasper may be the most beautiful place I've ever seen.  Been to the German and Austrian Alps, but I think the Canadian Rockies edges them out.

Could be but isn't 2020 as popular as 2024? Will do some research about Verizon/Fios to see if anyone else has issues. Thanks.

2020 is not as reliant on streaming as 2024..
